Hi,
I have a website all about Standard Poodles and there is a page all about ear care. Check it out, it might help. He probably has a yeast infection or ear mites.

Don't use anything now.. You need a proper diagnosis before you can treat the ears..
Does he have floppy ears? Yeast is the most common infection followed by mites. Treat yeast with rubbing alcohol.
My dog had the same problem. I went to petsmart and bought ear cleaner for dogs. Worked like a charm. Just make sure it says that it cleans, and soothes because it may clean the ear, but it could leave it dry, and the residue can get all flaky.
Drops of warm, and not hot olive oil in the dogs ear and save your money. The dog will be fine!
Wait for the professionals to do it. If you do something that you don't know will happen you could make it worse.
Sounds like an Ear Infection.
My dog has chronic ear infections- the Vet gives us an antibiotic to drop in her ears everyday- The Vet will probably clean out the ear really well and flush out any irritants then give you the antibiotic drops to follow up at hope.
Don't do anything yet. Wait until you see the vet. The vet will need a sample of the debris in the dog's ear to know what kind of ear medication to prescribe. The itching could be caused by an ear infection, which could be caused by yeast, bacteria or both- hence the need to be able to look at the debris under a microscope. It could also possibly be ear mites, which again, the vet will need a sample of what's in the ears.
The vet will probably send you home with an ear cleaner, to help prevent future ear infections.
I agree, stay away from the home remedies, if they worked that good, why dont they market it and make a ton of money? Thats what I thought.... Ear mites can cause infection when not caught in time. Time for a vet visit! Heck, isnt your dog worth it?
