Question:i have a 1 year old yorkie mix named molly. and ever since my other dog died, she wont use the bathroom outside and she wont eat ehr dog food. i leave her outside for about a half hour to an hour and she comes right in and potties in the house. and also, i have changed her food many times because i thought she just didnt like it but thats not it. i put like egg and some toehr things in it but she'll only eat the egg and stuff. i took her to the vet and she has no medical problems. could she be afraid of the outside now that my other dog is gone? also, could she be depressed??
Answers:
Dogs definitely go through a mourning period when they lose a canine friend. She is probably sad and going through a depressed period. The good news is that most dogs get through this mourning period very quickly (much faster than we recover from losing a dog friend!).
Take her somewhere where there are other dogs (a park or playground maybe) so she can get some canine interaction and give her time. She will probably move on relatively soon.
How long has it been since your other dog died?
she misses the other dog she needs a new friend go get one
yes dogs can be sad just like humans if a family member dies. The best thing is to get another similar dog if she misses her friend. My dog is depressed right now too and won't play with the other dogs because he was kicked down to omega status. Hopefully he will snap out of it soon.
Yes
just be patient with ur dog. maybe play with it a lot. kk or u can go buy another puppy.
There is a possibility that your dog is depressed. My friends dog had the same issue, wouldnt eat, play, or be as active as before the other dog had died. In about 2 months, it had passed away as well because of the strees. You should think about getting a compatible companion. When looking for another dog for it, take yours with you to go look and see which dog it socializes with the most and seems to get along with
It's very possible that your dog is depressed and confused because it no longer has its companion and has no way to communicate that. Dogs do go off their feed when they are having emotional difficulties and sometimes the pottying in the house is behavioral. A new friend might be good for her.
Our well trained and housebroken Jack Russell hates it when we are away on location working for a two or three day stretch. We get home late, and then leave again early in the AM. One of us drives back to take her out after midday and she tolerates this. It's when we get back to normal that she acts out--and pees on the floor!
We aren't away all of the time, and weren't working so many hours when we got her but that was 8 years ago and things have changed for our business, so we overlook it when she wets. Punishing her would be pointless.
She's extremely social like most of her breed, and very affectionate--she even has her own cat--it's just that she hates it when we're gone. We've had pet sitters, a house sitter, a walker, family come over and visit her--she still acts out sometimes after we're back on a regular basis.
We can't add another pet because it isn't allowed in our condominium nor would we want to because it would be unfair to a new pet not having us around so that option is out for us but it might be a good one for you. Ask your vet's opinion.
Good luck
I got two hound dogs. When my wife left me for another guy, last year, they became very depressed. I wasn't doing too well either. But, I took all her photos down eventually and let the kids spend more time with them and now they're very happy.me too.
