Question:well my boyfriend is leaving with family for 5 weeks and I was left with his dog named Leslie she is a she. and she is not spayed and my dog Dane is not neutered and my Bf wants puppies and so do I so should I put those two together? they get along fine..
Answers:
The male should ALWAYS be smaller than the female to avoid pregnancy and delivery complications and even death.
I would have them fixed instead. There are so many unwanted dogs being euthanized every day. Please think about it.don't be a contributer.
no i would go neuter my dog to lower cancer risks.
hard to say. are they nice together? different breeds? Do u want mutt puppies... be more specific please.
i wouldnt. they would make really weird looking puppys with those breeds.
As long as the female is not smaller than the male. You wouldn't want the female to carry big puppies because it could be dangerous for the female. But if they are both the same size I don't see nothing wrong with that.
If you both want puppies why not.
it's fine if you want to put them together, but if the female isn't in heat then she won't get pregnant
She will only get pregnant if she is in heat. A good way to check for this is check her vulva and see if it is swollen. If it is, then she is in heat. Good luck!
NOO!! Do not do that.
That is irresponsible.there are so many dogs that need homes in shelters. Raising puppies is a LOT OF WORK and you really need to be educated about the process. In addition, it costs a lot of money to care for them properly. Have the dogs spayed/neutered.
honestly, the world doesnt need anymore puppies! u know 9-11 million dogs are killed every year? Do ur animals a favor and keep them apart
If your Dog is neutered, than nothing would happened. They can't have puppies. Go ahead they just play with each other.
No. Absolutely not. Just throwing two dogs together results in more mixed breed puppies in a world where there are more dogs than good homes for them to go to. Even if you find homes for all of these, it means several dogs in shelters won't get adopted instead. Don't add to the problem.
Also, if you breed a small female dog like a cocker with a big dog like a german shepherd, the pups may end up too large and she will need a C-section - you are putting her at real medical risk. This is why people not experienced with breeding shouldn't do it and another reason not to create mixed breeds.
Ask your bf
Why would you want to cross a cocker spaniel with a Great Dane? Do you plan on keeping all of the puppies? Giving them away? Because you couldn't sell them. What happens if no one wants them - then what? You take them to the pound the join the millions of other unwanted puppies and dogs? If you both want puppies, why don't you go adopt a mutt instead of creating even more.
NO NO NO.....you are just adding to all the unwanted pets already sitting in shelters. And if she is cocker spanial and he is a german shepherd...she is kind of too small to be mating with a Shepherd.
No!
Random dog breeding is such a bad idea. Yes puppies are cute, but you're putting both animals at risk plus you're just contributing to the pet overpopulation problem.
Just think about all the animals that go into shelters every year and are left unadopted. They get put down.
Stop contributing to the problem, be a responsible pet owner and neuter your dog.
If you really want another dog, adopt one that needs a home from a shelter.
Don't breed them unless you have your BF permission. Does he know anything about breeding. If not, then don't do it, its not right or responsible. What if the dog should need a vet? Are you prepared for the cost and the responsibility? How old are the dogs? They should not be bred until at least two. Seems to me your BF didn't think this through.
The Shepard is to big a mate for the Spaniel. She may be able to carry the puppies, but their size may cause her severe problems with the birth.
It's not up to us to tell you or your boyfriend to have your dogs spayed and nuetured. Although that is not a bad idea. The choices are yours. I'm not here to judge as the rest, just to give sound advice.
OMG NO! OIVE'
You are not mature enough to breed dogs. You can't just breed dogs "because your boyfriend wants puppies" or because it will be fun having little ones around. This is why shelters have to put millions of dogs to sleep each year, because of irresponsible breeders who don't think ahead.
Will you want to pay possible medical bills? If she has a problem and you have to have a c-section, you are looking at a $500-$1000 bill. Is that worth it because your BF wants puppies? The mom can die during birth. If that happens, then you get the joy of feeding the puppies every two hours, including getting up in the middle of the night. You also get to rub their anuses to make them poop and pee. Then, there is the medical care for the pups, including check ups and vaccinations. And you get to try to find them homes with responsible owners.
You both need to properly take care of your dogs and get them spayed and neutered.
Spaying a dog will reduce her chances for many infections and cut down on the chance of mammary cancer by alot. Neutering a dog will make his risk of prostate cancer almost zero. Behavior will improve for both cases.
No, there are too many dogs the way it is
please don't breed these two dogs together. if you want puppies, maybe volunteer to do fostering for your local humane society or aspca. if there is a difference in size between the two dogs it could cause the female problems with delivery. they could get too big and get stuck in the birth canal which could result in death of the pups and the mother.
no dont do it! there are to many puppies in the world with nohomes if your frend wants a puppy he will have to go buy one that really needs a home the only reason he probly wants one from you is so it would be free not cost any money!
No, I would not. I don't think a shepherd and cocker spaniel mix is a good thing. Plus the shepherd is a lot bigger than the cocker spaniel and the pups might be to big for her to deliver. If he wants puppies, breed her to another cocker spaniel.
In my opinion I think it's irresponsible to have pets and not get them spayed and neutered. I believe it's part of your responsibility to take care of the animal when you are the owner. I am sure you would have a few cute puppies but is your boyfriend willing to take on the responsibility for a litter of puppies, pay for all of these animals from the litter to get their shots, and feed all these animals? I'm thinking not. I think breeding more is not a responsible thing to do. If you would like a puppy, adopt one from your local shelter and give a dog in need a good home.
Are you for real? Check the pet finder ads and see all the dogs and puppies that need homes and there are not enough homes to go around. WHY would ANYONE with an ounce of common sense encourage these two dogs to breed?
You and your boyfriend should spend some time volunteering at a shelter. After you both share the "Miracle of Life" with Dane and Leslie having puppies - share the "Miracle of DEATH" for similiar puppies that irresponsible people allowed to be born. You are not the only people that thinks having a litter would be fun and cute.. there are thousands and you create a million sad stories of unwanted animals in pounds, shelters and on the streets..
Of course, you'll find them "good homes" .. but most of those unwanted pups were placed in "good homes" and then one day dumped because they were no longer "fun or cute" .
Give this some more thought and see the ultimate impact of your boyfriends desire to have puppies -
Why don't you two just have a baby instead...?
You should definitely GO to the appointment. There are so many dogs out there people can't find homes for and it's very hard to sell or even give puppies away when they aren't full-breed. I think you are making the right choice!
Thank you for not canceling because they have some very cute puppies in the pound so you can go there and adopt one tell your boyfriend to do the same thing so that those puppies wont be put down and they can have a loving home
Ok good luck
Reasons NOT to breed - Questions to ask yourself:
1 - The female is a cocker spaniel and the dog a German Shepherd. Carry and/or having the puppies could kill her due to the size differences.
2 - Why do you think breeding mixed breeds is a good idea when thousands of dogs and killed each day for lack of homes?
3 - Having the two dogs together does not make puppies. If you don't understand if the female is in season (heat) and at a breedable time in that heat cycle (they will only breed on specific days out of the entire 28 day cycle) how do you expect to be able to support the pregnancy, birth and raising of puppies for 8 weeks.
4 - Do you have a list of people that have been researched who would want puppies or were you planning to sell/give them to anyone who asked for one?
5 - Are you prepared to take on of these puppies back over their entire lifespan should the owner not want them?
I know how wonderful puppies are- I see dozens every week in the animal shelter where I volunteer. If you'd like to be around puppies, go volunteer. It is an AMAZING experience! Use the contacts you make at the shelter to start a business- dog walking or pet sitting. Now you're making money AND being around dogs all the time! And if that perfect puppy comes along while you're working there, well 2 dogs aren't much more difficult than 1, 3 not much more than 2...LOL!
There are so many other ways to enjoy pups without making more of them. Be responsible- keep your appointment, and THANK YOU.
