Question:my 8 week old lab is biting the carpet and pulling it up, and suggestions on what to do?
Answers:
Give him/her something else to chew on and use correction. The pup is too young to understand what is and is not a chew toy.
enroll him in a training course in petsmart
your puppy is teething .! go to the pet store and get some chew toys itll helpp ur dog!
give him a toy or something to chew
Sprinkle pepper on your carpet until he is old enough to be trained then get him into obedience school. It's normal. Some people will say to buy stuff at a pet store but its so expensive, good ol' fashioned pepper works, you just have to get used to walking around in it. OH, unless you have babies or kids then I wouldn't recommend it. Also ask your Vet, they could have a better suggestion but that worked for us.
Next time it does it slap it really hard or pull its ear a little. After a few of times it won't do that anymore, or at least around you.
They have this stuff at Petsmart it is a lime spray you spray it on the carpet and it gives them a nasty taste in their mouth. It is like $2.00. It is so worth it too. We used it when our dog was chewing on the woodwork.
Other than correcting it when you catch the dog doing it, there is very little you can do. If you try and discipline the dog while it it NOT ripping up your carpet, then this only confused the dog, since he won't know what you are yelling at him for. I've had pups in the past, and they can destroyed your house, if left alone for any length of time.
Sounds like teeth. FIND him something to chew on. Like a chunk of carpet. HE is trying to find something soft and probably that will help his teeth. FUNNY how they actually think. TRY to find him something. ONE critter I found the answer for was a sock. HE just wanted to keep his teeth clean.. so I put an old acrylic sock on a pedistal and he kept that chewed instead of every afghan in the house. I would trade it for a clean one and wash that one every once in a while. critters are smart. normajean
Try putting him in a room with no carpet on the floor. He's a 'baby' and babies do the 'weirdest things' and puppies are no different. And DO NOT put him into a 'training class' until he's AT LEAST 12 weeks old ... he's still 'developing' and his brain won't 'retain' any training at 8 weeks. Also, get him some good 'chewy toys' to bite on ... and some 'dog treats' to give him when he bites his toys, and not when he bites the carpet.
this is exactly happening with my friend who has the same dog and the same age. Interesting. This is just part of the teething process so try to give it as many teething toys to chew on.
You could tell him not too.. Give him something else to play with instead.. What are you doing, just sitting there watching him do it?? Tell him not to chew the carpet..
Puppies will bite and chew anything when they are teething. Redirect him by pulling him off the carpet and giving him his chew toys, this will tell him that its not ok to chew your carpet but its ok to chew his toys. Register your pup on behaviour classes and it will make things a lot easier for you! goodluck! =)

Try Bitter Apple, Bitter yuck, or Bitter end. This products are taste deterrent's
immediately like bite him with your fingers and give a sound...this gets his attention andcorrects his behavior and you will be repeating this process till it understand that you won't tolerate this behavior
play with him until hes too tired to chew anything
he needs a bone and alto of chew toys. For everyday the chew toys are fine but to really get those teeth and gums feeling good get him a bone for his size. It will help stop a lot of the chewing of the carpet and other things. Also watch out for that spot that he is chewing on. Even with the toys he may go back to it because he already started. Once they start chewing on something its hard to get them to stop.
I have the exact same problem with my 13-week old Golden Retriever. What did is get that "bitter apple" spray from Petsmart. The downside of this is that it can stain your carpet, but my carpet happens to be in an outdoor area so it's ok for me. I sprayed the loose pieces of the carpet with it, and also the pieces she ripped off. I gave those ripped pieces to her to smell, and she immediately didn't like it. Another downside is that you have to spray it every day.
Also, try to catch her in the act, and then say "No!" really loudly and firmly so she knows it's wrong.
