11 week pup attacking my legs?

Question:My 11 week old Basset Hound is attacking my legs when i stand up! She bites so hard she makes me bleed sometimes. I tell her NO very firmly and give her her toy but she plays with her toy for about a second then goes back to me! I dont know what to do so can you guys help me? Oh and another thing she does is when she does something bad like when she chews on the couch I scold her then she attacks me because I'm guessing shes angry because im stoping her fun. I know shes teething and all but what should I do?

Answers:
Well first of all shock collars and hitting are NO NO"s -

This may sound crazy but a simple spray bottle of water will do the trick. If you are playing and she bites you spritz her a few times and say NO BITE.

Make sure your pup has lots to do- she may be acting out of boredom not meanness.

Give her chew toys. Make sure you praise her a LOT if she plays with NO BITING> hopefully for your ske this is just a puupy phase. But curb it now before she gets older and really hurts someone.

good luck.

Try a shock collar. I wouldnt use it for just anything but a good jolt while shes biting should do the trick. Also try locking it away and ignoring it.
My dalmatian was doing the same thing, but all he needed was a few good spankings before that stopped. As for your couch, you can buy a spray at Wal-Mart that gives of a scent (they can smell but we can't) that repels them from chewing or using the bathroom in those spots.
You need to assert yourself and the alpha.

This could include holding her down to the ground by the neck.

Grabbing her muzzle and pinching it.

Turning her over on her back and exposing her belly and forcing her to stay in this position.

I know it sounds mean, but this is how the dog brain works. They MUST know who is in control, and any trainer will tell you the same.
the thing with dogs are, you need to show it where it stands in the pecking order,
you might not agree but you could try a swift tap on its snout as this shocks the dog and makes it realise your the boss,
dont give it a toy as to the dog its a reward,
or as iv seen on tv (dog borstall) get a small coke bottle and put some gravell in it and when the dog does wrong shake the bottle hard once saying no firmly and the dog cowers,
if it re attempts this then do again, shake bottle firmly and say NO. dont be a wouss about it or the dog will own you ;-)
dont give her the toy or shell think she did good!

you need to say no then hit her ( not TOO hard lol!!) on the nose
that is how the REAL agressive dogs obey the owner or God forbid she will always be like this and will always be a brat
good luck!

Next time that she attacks your legs, or the couch, pick her up and tell her no. Then put her on the ground. Tell her to sit. If and once she sit, give her a dog toy. Go to your local pet store today and buy her a teething toy. If you don't know what a teething toy looks like, you can always ask an emploey who works at the local pet store. Use that as a toy for your dog. If she attacks the couch, do the same thing. Pick her up, set her down, tell her to sit, when she sits, gives her the teething toy. If she doesn't sit, and she keeps either attacking your legs or the couch, pick her up again, and do the samething over, and over again, until she learns that she isn't suppost to do that!

This should work! If you have any questions, you can email me at: pethelper4@yahoo.com! Thanks, and good luck!
You have to show your dog who is the boss! Clap your hand loudly (or make another sound). At the same time say, "(dog's name), NO!". You can also use a small spray bottle and sprey her, instead of clapping.

Give her the toy and walk away from her. When you come back into the room, and she is playing with her toy, praise her and give her a small treat.

For the couch problem, again, make a loud sound (preferably the same sound you would use for getting her to stop bitting your legs), and say "(dog's name), NO!" Nudge, but do not push, her off the couch and give her the chew toy.

If the problem persists, you can go to a PET STORE (not Wal-mart), and buy a foul spray to spray over the couch. To avoid the couch smelling, you should put a sheet over the couch (especially if the couch is leather), so that you can wash the sheet easily and keep the couch clean.

You have to teach your dog that she is not the leader. If you let her grow up with these habits, she will be uncontrolable.

You might want to invest in getting a dog trainer if the problem of biting you persists.

hey there,

Our young jack russel terrier is doing almost the same thing! Well, actually both of them. When I go outside they begin to bark at me and keeps biting my pants and pulling me..they want to play I think. What I think is that your dog wants you to run so that he can catch you.try get him/her a toy that is on a rope.run with the rope in your hand ( or let someone do it for you :) ) then he will go after you and so he will stop biting you.almost every dog we had done that.now it's become so usual that we make our dogs toys mostly out of ropes so that they don't chew our furniture.with our jack russel's it's a good thing that they are like that because if someone tries to break in they won't get away very easy cause if the dogs have him by the legs it's impossible to get away or even move! If he still does it just tell him NO and STOP with a sorta mean voice . if this doesn't help then just tap him on the bum...with a rolled up newspaper you can tap him soft but the hard noise will scare him and he will stop.repeat this and he will stop after a few days. :)

Hope this was sorta help full :) :) :)
