Question:We adopted a 4 month old pure bread Siberian Huskey from the pound. He was very skinny and infested with fleas and ticks, but we've taken care of that part. His problem is that he cries all the time when he's outside. We have a finced in yard but he is also on a run because Huskeys are very likely to escape from the yard. He comes with me on my morning and evening runs, so he gets pleanty of exercise. We were going to allow him to come into the house as long as we could keep an eye on him and make sure to put him out by a certian time every night, but we're afraid that would make the crying worse. Anyone know what we can do to keep him from crying? Can we allow him to come in or would that makeit worse?
Answers:
Hi Jen P, all dogs are pack animals i.e. they live in groups and Siberian Huskeys and Malamutes more so than most. He really needs at least 1 more dog around to keep him company.
Sounds like he's lonely and misses you guys. Dogs are pack animals and don't like to be seperated from the families who brought them into their packs.
is it because you aren't with him? maybe he is scared that you will leave him like whoever left him at the pound did, just comfort him when he gets like this.
Huskies are very socialable animals, they are pack animals so they enjoy companionship.
I would definately try introducing him to your indoor life, but without expecting miracles overnight. They are smart, and get bored easily, they'll get into stuff. Have lots of things out that are ok for him, and alternate toys from time to time, like kids, they get bored with the same toys.
Hope this helps, sounds like you've put some love and care into him already - keep it up! :)
Also, if you dont already have any Kong toys, see if you can get one. They're great for keeping dogs busy, you can put treats in them, and play with them like a ball.
Bring him in and make him part of the family. He's probably crying because he's lonely.
Depends on your house. Do you have a screened in porch or breezeway where you could set up a place for him? It sounds like he just wants to be with you. Its your call if you want him in the house. Do You have a utility/laundry room in the house where you could set him up...who knows what his life was like before you got him...like I said it sounds like he just wants to be WITH you. My daughter has two outdoor dogs from the pound and they both stay in the house and one even insists on sleeping in bed with her and her husband. Its really up to you. Good luck.
