Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe pets need to be in quarantine for awhile before they are "released" - if so, that would make it a longer trip and yes, more difficult.
Not to mention - what would happen if you lost your dog? You can't stay in Europe in order to find him.
Put him in a boarding kennel where he will be safe and looked after and enjoy your trip.
depends on what kind of dog. probably not though!! :)
It depends on where you are travelling from. Firstly you will need a dog passport. This is provided by a registered vet and must contain proof of vaccination for 6 months previously.
Also the tricky part is a scheme called P.E.T.S which controls domesticated animal movements across international borders. Basically there are 2 types of country, those listed and those not listed.
If you come from a listed country you can take the dog with the passport, so long as at every step you prove you have not entered an unlisted country. This means you will need to plan your travels according to countries that are part of the scheme. Still follow me?
More info is available from the UK website for DEFRA http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quaranti...
The page is about animal movements between the UK and other countries but it also contains details on what you need to get your dog enrolled with a passport and most importantly which countries are listed!
I heard Europe had a long quarantine unless they did away with it. best to let your dog have a vacation at one of those pet resorts.
If your dog is well behaved, shouldn't be a problem. Yeah you have the quarinte (however you spell it) thing going on, but after that, no problem. First of all, dogs can travel up to 30 miles in a day. Also, you can get little doggy backpacks for them so they carry their own stuff. There is even one, I am giving you the link, that I think would be perfect for this.
