Question:She was always good in our yard and now whenever she is out without a leash she takes off and doesn't respond when we call her or anything. We live on a very busy street so I am really getting concerned. How can I train her not to bolt?
Answers:
she needs to get used to you calling for her... your yard is her HOME, of course she will be good. use the leash as much as you can, but no matter if she's on it or not call her name when you want her to do something. never say her name if she is in trouble... when you praise her say her name over and over with the praise.. practice calling her back and forth in an in closed yard where she can not escape you, and BE SURE TO GIVE HER A TREAT AND PRAISE HER LIKE CRAZY WHEN SHE COMES TO YOU.
play fetch and stimulating games while continually using her name... you catch more bees with honey than vinegar!
ALWAYS PRAISE HER FOR WHAT SHE DOES GOOD, ALWAYS USE HER NAME FOR GOOD THINGS. she'll learn that her name is a good thing so that when you call her, she will inevitably come!
NEVER SAY HER NAME WHEN YOU SCOLD HER!
I'm currently trianing a 3 year old rescued Great Perineise that has no command sense at all. Believe me, this has worked for my full grown dog, I'm sure you could make use of it as well!
Keep her on a leash.
Problem solved.
Training classes.
Leash.
This is kind of a no brainier don't you think?
You keep her on a leash!
Get an electric underground fence.or build an actual fence.
well my dog diddy does the same as well. the thing i did was whenever you go out to the store or something carry him in the car so he can get the ride too. or walk him twice a day. once in the morning and once in the afternoon or tie him to your seat whenever you go bike riding.
