Question:continue to be bad-no matter how much i let him out-for ex: i let him outside last night he was waiting by the door i let him in and he s**ts on the carpet-why does he do this?-i pay alot of attention to him-we've had him for almost 3yrs and i think he gets dumber every day
Answers:
hmm. maybe he doesn't like being outside, or he's trying to get attention. You should try petting him a lot once he gets inside and encourage him to poop outside
Other Answers:
When your dog poo's on the floor put a cage around the poop with the dog in the cage with it! Then your dog will know not to poop on the floor!
If you see him in the act, take a rolled up newspaper and smack him on the snout...don't beat him or anything, but let him know he's done wrong...I'm sure he knows it already, just give him consequences !
are you walking your dog regularly? ans may be he just wants your attention
He is probably confused. Just because he goes outside doesn't mean he knows what he's out there for.
Go back to housebreaking 101 as if he was a puppy. Don't give him a single chance to mess in the house. If you can't watch him, he should be either outside or in his crate. Don't allow him freedom of the house until he demonstrates that he knows what is expected. Go outside with him so you can reward him for doing his business outside. If he doesn't go when he's out, keep him on leash or in his crate when you bring him in so he doesn't have a chance to make a mistake. If he does make a mistake indoors, take a rolled up newspaper and whack YOURSELF on the head with it, repeating "I didn't watch him closely enough!" :-)
This may take a while, since he has been allowed to continue this bad habit for so long. Every time he does it, the behavior is reinforced. On the plus side, he has better bladder control than a puppy.
Good luck!
