Question:we need a dog that
-has shorthair
-nice with kids
-smart
and it haas to be able to be outside, in a garage, or in a dog house.
Answers:
Dogs can live outside just fine! My Golden Retriver x Labrador wouldn't be happy inside, she loves to run outside and would be destroying the house if she was allowed inside. She is part of the family and always will be! She is loved so much and is not forgotten.
Labrador and Golden Retriver although they can look like a shorthair, are actually long haired dogs as they have a double coat and are not good for those that have allergies.

You can get a rescue dog for less than $1000.
Most rescue puppies are around 130 to cover the cost of vaccination
Adult rescue dogs are around 200
Elderly dogs are even cheaper
NEVER BUY FROM A PET STORE.
Getting adult dog you'll already know whether it gets along well with children!
German shepherd are the best dogs. You can get one with short or long hair. I have one and she is incredibly smart. She also is a great companion she would never harm me. Also, she stays outside in a dog house. German shepherd are the dogs you want.
They sell them in toy stores, Walmart, Target, etc., and they have stuffing inside of them. There is your perfect dog.... Why get a dog if he's not gonna be allowed in the house?
I would suggest a beagle.
Labrdor Retriever
adopt a greyhound
i understand you want a dog..but it should be apart of the family, not kept outside in a dog house..i personally find it kinda mean to do that to a dog..they tend to get forgoten and not really treated as part of the family..after a while they tend to get pushed to the side..please just think about it..and consider keeping the dog inside if you get one..
A labrador. Black has always been the best for me.
We have a Border Terrier mix.she's a lovely dog that LOVES kids to death. She has short hair and doesn't shed... and is VERY smart. We taught her how to walk on a leash in about 10 minutes. They are ok outside...mine sleeps in a large kennel becuase that's how the owners before us trained her. She's beautiful and incredibley friendly to cats, dogs, people, and like I said, kids.
A dog is to be a companion and family member..not to live out in the garage or dog house away from the family. If you want a dog to complete "the family picture" but have no plans on letting it establish itself as a member of the family and sleep in the house then you need to reconsider getting a dog.
i agree with Shannon
a jack russel or theres a chow but it`s not short haired but there good with kids and smart. and theres a boxer. or a norfolk terrior. pick a dog that is perfect for your family.
A very playful, yet manageable dog is a miniature daschund. AKA: Wenie Dog. They do not shed, they are always happy and love to play with children, and are easy to keep outside and maintain.
If you don;t want the dog in the house why would you want a dog at all? People get dogs to be companions. That means they live inside with the family to be loved and to give love.
Any dog who never comes in and at best gets left in a garage is not going to be socialized so most probably not good with kids.
I agree with those who suggested a stuffed dog. Honestly I think you need to rethink this one.
WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIOR ALL THE WAY!
i have had one since i was nine and i am 14 now.
1she is relly smart
2she is small so she is gentle but loves to play
3she is the most loving animal on this planet
4they are good watch dogs
5easy to train
6and if this matters they work well with other animals
ummm they are perfect companions but they love to chase after squirells...but what dog doesnt? also they are easy to keep clean dont require many bathes..ummm the only time that the hair thing might be a problem is in the winter if you dont give them a cut their hair might grow a little bit faster in the winter...but they truly are one of the best family dogs there is! hope you get one
A WHIPPET IS A GREAT FAMILY DOG THAT DOESNT SHED MUCH. BUT I DONT THINK YOU SHOULD GET ONE IF IT IS GOING TO BE OUTSIDE OR IN THE GARAGE ALL THE TIME. A DOG IS ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE FAMILY NOT TRASH. I HPOE YOU DONT GET ONE. YOU DONT DESERVE IT.
Adopt a stuffed toy from the pound. This way he wont bark when he's left alone in the garage.
Get a poodle (miniture, toy, or regular). They dont shed so they are good with allergy sufferers or people with asthma. If you get them as a puppy, they will adapt to thier surroundings and will be great with children. hope this helps your decision!
Unless you live on a farm and have working dogs that are bred to stay with the livestock I would suggest you forgot getting a dog. They are domesticated animals and are not bred to live outside unless they are a working breed.
Why don't you just skip the dog idea or find a dog that is hypoallergenic and can live inside?
If you have a lot of room try a blue heeler. If your cramped for space try an English Sheep dog.
