Coloring for Tri Pembroke Welsh Corgi?

Question:She's 2 years old and she's lost a LOT of black in her face, her hips and her sides. Now all the hair on her back is only black on the tips and completely white down to the root. Does this mean she's going to lose all her black? Is this normal?

Answers:
Totally normal! We have four Pembrokes and even our red and white has done that. It seems to start at about 17-24 months old when they are fully mature. But she should keep her black markings even if it is only on the ends of the fur. She may show her age a little more around her face and will get some gray (actually white) hairs in the black but for the most part she'll keep her black.

Can you post a picture? She doesn't sound like a true tri...possibly a sable? Sables can lighten, but tris should not. That's with any animal (even sable mice), not specific to this breed.

Edit: Thank you for adding the pictures. She's adorable, btw! A true tri will have solid black hairs, not just black tipped. I think she is a sable. If not, then a red headed tri. However, you can double check with any reputable breeder. The breeder in the last link I posted knows her stuff, maybe you could even email her?
Nope, she's not going to loose her black saddle. She is what is referred to as a red headed tri. Depending on genetics and the red factoring in her lines, will determine the extent of her red. But she is typical of a RHT. The other color is a black headed tri which has black on it's head and ears, with only a slight indication of the red markings along their cheeks, eyebrows and sometimes in the ears.

Pretty girl-I had pems for several years-recently placed my last one in a home where the new owner does therapy work in a senior housing facility several days a week. I'm now owned by a house full of cardigans-now there's color genetics to make your head spin!
Yes this is normal. She is now a "red headed tri". she is not likely going to lose any more black. All Corgis with black lose some as they grow up. Some tri colored Corgis are born black and white. As these dogs grow up the black in some areas gives place to tan. Most red and white puppies are actually born with a lot of black.

The link that Cat gave you to Terenelf is the website of a friend of mine. She just had eye sergery this week. And in fact I plan on visiting her next week when I go down to see another breeder that lives close by. I will give you the website of the other breeder, it has lots of very useful info on taking care of your Corgi. http://www.honeyfoxcorgis.com/index.html...
