A good farm dog?

Question:Wut type of dog is good at hunting pests, guarding and herding. It has to be a bigger breed for pulling equipment and a good campanion

Answers:
A few that come to mind: The Great Pyrenees is great at guarding live stock, also large enough to pull carts, and I have heard that they herd sheep also. The Australian Cattle Dog is a great herder, and a very sturdy dog. Bernese Mountain Dogs and Greater Swiss mountain dogs were originally bred for cart pulling. And Rottweilers are all around working dogs. And I'm sure there are many more that would do well on a farm.

After going over the breeds, I think the Rottweiler matches everything you are looking for. They can herd, guard, pull carts, and they make excellent family companions.

A border Collie but i dont think it would make a good guard dog
Collie
A farm collie. Look here: http://izebug.syr.edu/~gsbisco/fcwherefi...
what do you mean for pulling equipment? its a dog not a horse.
blue heeler!
collie. not like lassie... but the black and white kind. good dogs. very good.
I hear great things about Border Collies - although I have never owned one. They are very smart for gaurding and herding, but maybe not big enough for the pulling-- what about a Bernese mountain dog? Maybe check the AKC website-- they have good breed references and a questionere to help you find your ideal dog based on your lifestyle and what you'd like the dog to do.
Good luck
There is a Collie, Sheltie, or you can look up on the internet to see what type of dog you want.
great pyranese. i'm not sure i spelled that right. they were meant for herding and guarding, and keep away creatures that will harm a herd. they are particularly good with goats and sheep. if you want him to be very good with the goats, then you need to place him in the herd, and have no contact with him other than leaving out food, that will cause him to grow up with the herd as his family. that makes him not the best companion, but you can always keep him in the house as a companion, and he just won't be as good of a shepherd.
Bernese Mtn Dog .. good at everything but the hunting part. Bred as farm dogs in the Swiss Bern mountain region they were used for herding, guarding the farm and hauling carts.
german shepherd...they were breed for herding...and you can also look at websites about diff breeds of dogs...but you should look at the herding group...cuz that is what it sounds like you want...good luck!
A German Shepherd, or a Great Pyrenees are larger-type breeds that are good for working livestock.

My German Shepherd mix works cattle, kills rodents and pests, and guards my house, but again, he's a mix.
A goodfarm dog is mix between a mcnabbordercollie blueheeler. I Know this because I live on a farm and I have one. Mine is friendly, chases deer away, catches birds, barks at strangers and is friendly to her owner, it can herd cattle and is a very good cowdog. Its not very big but its strong and can run 31 miles an hour. She listens well and she was easy o train.
A border collie is what first comes to my mind. They are smaller though. Another breed to consider is a Bernese Mountain dog. This breed was bred to be an all around farm dog, very laid back and easily trained. They are larger than collies and better suited to pull equipment.
An Airedale Terrier. They are all around champions at all of those things. I have a Border Collie, an Airedale and a mixed breed. Border Collies are great at guarding and herding, but not known for being "hunters" even of rodents. Airedales are also VERY strong and could easily pull a small wagon, etc.
Australian Cattle dog
I rescued an Austrailan Cattle Dog, also known as a Queensland Heeler.

I am the luckiest person alive to have found him.

He likes to "herd" but since we only have cats, he herds the cats to come inside when its time.

He is loyal like no other dog I've had. He guards the property and has his regular routine of patrolling the perimeter.

They are very smart and are friendly and kind. He is a medium size dog but he is very strong.

He can spin on a dime and run like the wind.

Hunting - No. He only scares off animals outside our fence. He won't hunt, only chase.

If you need an animal to catch rodents and such a terrier will do that or a daschund, they are probably great companions as well.

Good Luck!
