Yes they work very well...
They work best in the area around the dog's neck. They offer no protection at the rear. There are better ways to protect dogs against fleas. If fleas are a real problem for you, the collar is still better than nothing.
No, my vet said to stop using it because it could be toxic to the dog if they get it off (chew it) and it could kill it or make it extremely sick. He recommended flea meds that are liquid and last for a month. Also, flea collars only make the fleas run to the dog's bottom half and that is where they prefer anyway. Also, flea and tick shampoos dry your dog's skin out. Talk to your vet about products that last awhile.

Yes they work but I don't trust them completely I would get some medicine and a flea collar.( I trust advantage for my dogs. )
NO! Flea collars only run the fleas to other parts of the dog. Talk to your vet about what he thinks is best for your particular dog and then use it. I have three dogs and I use Frontline Plus once a month and we don't have any fleas now. Before I started using this we were over run with fleas and my dogs were always digging and scratching.

depends on the size of your breed. They are proven to work well with Toy and Small breeds but questionable results with medium breeds and not very good results with large breeds. Best bet, go out and get something to use on the yard/lawn that will kill insects including flies, fleas, ticks, bees, slugs, etc. Follow the instructions on the bottles or bags and you should be set. if you dogs has fleas now, give them a bath but keep the shampoo on for a while before rinsing it off.
