Question:Could anyone tell me what sickness my dog has?
I have a 5 year old Dalmatian;
She has lost her appetite and hasn't been eating much for the past 2-3 days, she's lost a lot of weight.
Her urine is also red, and smells a lot badly than usual.
She hasn't been vomiting, though.
She's still a bit active and jumps around when I'm near, but when I'm not, she just lies around.
I've tried searching on Google, but it's a bit to unspecific.
Please give me answers other than "take her to the vet," which is something I should obviously do.
Thank you :)

There are so many things it could be.
But a urninary tract infection is the most common cause of blood in the urine according to this site.

It could be one of these too Kidney failure, Perianal fistula, Tapeworms
This one sounds most like your dog's problem and you said it was a her - I took this information from this page http://home.ivillage.com/pets/symsolve/0...
Uterine infection
Dogs and cats get mild infections all the time, and their immune systems usually clear things up even before you notice that there is a problem. Not so with uterine infections. Pets with this condition -- usually new mothers or pets that are pregnant -- can get extremely sick very quickly. There may be a strong-smelling, pus-filled, or bloody discharge. Your pet will probably have a fever as well, and she won't feel like eating or exercising. Uterine infections are always an emergency. Call your vet immediately if you even suspect that this could be the problem.
Call your vet and see if you can't bring the dog in yourself, I don't know if they would even allow that because I don't know how young you are. You are obviously more responsible than your father though. See if the vet will let you work off the bill, cleaning cages or doing odd jobs around there.
hmm,, blood in urine?? urinary tract infection, bladder infection, internal bleeding, CANCER,, could be a myriad of things,,, soooooo..... you know where you HAVE to go today,, i won't say it
Then do it.. take her to the vet, red urine is likely to be blood in her urine. Why are you waiting and asking on here?
absolutely make sure she doesn't get dehydrated, and try to get some food in her.
And i know you don't want to hear it, but i just gotta say it. take her to the vet. Lol. sorry.
Yeah...you might not like this...but 'take her to the vet!!!'
Reddish urine can mean a million things, and so can lack of appetite. You name it.poisoning.bladder infection...bladder stones...liver problems...kidney problems...collitis.uuuummm... I say more?
The general rule is...if your dog is not behaving how it usually does, instead of taking time and beating around the bush here.you should take her to the vet. Because...the sooner you take her in, the more time and money you will save yourself.!
sounds bad, so i would take her to the vets
So .. does Dad go to the Doc's when he's ill?? Does he take you kids when your ill??
Yep . you know what I'm going to say! Please, go to the vet. Blood in the urine is too important to hope it goes away on it's own. A few bucks spent NOW could save you a lot more later!
Good luck!
red urine means some sort of blood in the urine. probably some sort of infection. the only way you will know, is to take her to the vet. antibiotics have to be given out by a vet.
get your phone book, call local vets, and ask how much they charge for an office visit. cant stress how much this dog needs a doctor!!
Sorry, but I have to say it.. TAKE your Dog to the VET! Bug your dad to take your dog to the VET. It is very hard to recommend any medication w/c is for humans to give to your dog. It won't be the same. It can worsen your dog's situation.
You have no choice. You just have to take the responsibility in taking care of your dog. Otherwise she will die.
What is the use of having a pet if you are not going to take care of it very well ? Right?
First of all the blood in the urine should have tipped you off, take the dog to the vet. And your father saying that you shouldn't bring your dog to the vet is stupidity on his part.
If your dad was sick wouldn't he go to the doctor, no lets spend the money on something else.
Dogs need care too and they get sick too, if you can't afford the vet then you can't afford a dog!
We got a puppy in March and she started with just the minor pukes but within 3 days she was so weak that she couldn't stand. She got completely dehyrdated and had blood in her urine and her diarrhea eventually was pure bloody water. We took her in for an emergency call and then the following day we admitted her. She stayed for 6 days but made it. They think she had a virus and ended up with an intestine infection.
If we would of taken her right away...she prob wouldn't of gotten as sick as she did and it ended up costing us more in the long run. I know you don't want to hear to take your dog to the vet, but if you love your dog...its best to take her in. I'm guessing if her urine has blood in it and its real smelly, its prob just a bladder infection but pills are the only way to get rid of it.
Just tell your dad that you don't want to see your dog suffer anymore. Would he take you to the doc if you were in pain?? Well, your dog is in pain....take it to the vet.
(I am including links for you to show to your dad)
The red means there's blood in the urine, and like with humans, it's never a good sign.
It could be urine or urinary tract infection, possibly a tear in the duct.

What happens with a urinalysis:

This should prove to your dad that there's more than enough cause for the vet since it dcould be life-threatening.
I doubt your dad skimps on his own healthcare, why that of another living animal so obviously in need?
Your father is irresponsible. If you peed with blood and stopped eating and loose weight, would he watch you die too?
She may have a urinary track infection or a possible bowel obstruction in which case she may need anti-biotics. give her plenty of water
Of course I say take her the vet...ASAP Also
I always suggest not to feed her the pet food that she was getting unless you know that it has been tested for Melamine. Most of the pet foods still on the shelves are still tainted and causing lots of problems. I could link you up to some heartbreaking real life stories. For the time being go to Itchmo.com for updates and info on pet food.
Cook some chicken for her, rice some veggies, carrots, potatoes, green beans. No onions, no garlic, no salt, no pepper, no grapes, no raisins. At least until you know if it is her food making her sick. If it is her pet food it will be very serious and the longer you wait the less likely chance your dog will make it. I would assume if your dad will not want to pay for vet bills that he is probably feeding your dog a very cheap, non nutritious maybe tainted product with lots of corn as a first ingredient.which is bad.
You need to take her to a vet. If your dad is totally against it. Ask him if you can take her urine in a cup to the vet for a urinalysis. This will at least give you an idea as to what it is. I would like to say that if your dad refuses to go the vet. I would suggest that after this dog passes and she probably will without treatment...don't ever get another dog or pet until your family can take the responsibility of caring for it properly or you are able to care for the pet yourself. Best of luck to you, you sound like a very compassionate and nice person.
This sounds very dangerous. But also, your dog needs her shots as well, so your dog probably needs a lot and if you care for her you need to take her to the vet, the vet isn't expensive, some places you can take your dog to the humane society and get free shots and what not, but the vet is the best bet.
