Keeping a hyper active dog company?

Question:I have a VERY hyper active dog, and we dont have all day to spend with him since my parents both work.I do spend as much time as I can, but he wares me out alot too.
I was wondering if it owuld be a good idea to get another dog. Nothing TOO hyper active, but enouth to keep him company while we are out and to maybe play with him some and tire him down some! haha.
He's a Jack russel terrier mix, but much bigger then the normal size. (19inches high I think)
He;s pretty darn good with all the dogs he's been around except one. Which is just odd and he only barks at him some when it goes for a walk in fron of our house.

~looking for small but sturdy dog
~One with medium energy level ( of course all puppies will have high energy levels if we get a puppy though)

~ we walk the dog from 2 -5 times a day mattering on the conditions.
~have a big back yard ,
~2 cats(so nothing that has a tendacy to eat them!)

I would recommend a PUG..awesome breed. You could try a treadmill if you have one, you will have to train him to use it but it works great once you do. You could also try when you walk him to put a dog back pack on him with water bottles in it so he has a JOB, it will mentally exhaust him, which is a good thing. Good luck

Getting another dog wont help. In the end you will just end up with two dogs. That's twice the energy, twice the food, twice the time, and twice the money.

I have a doberman with a lot of energy too. When I'm at home but can't play with him because of homework I put him on the treadmill. I also take him for a bike ride around the block(he's running next to the bike).

Also do a lot of obedience work with him. Take him to an obedience class or do something like agility just for fun.
Well, it is fairly normal for a Jack Russel to be highly active. You should note that pure bred jack russels are notorius for being aggressive with different breeds when left alone. It's recomended that if you get another dog, limit to one other Jack russel, preferebly of the different sex.

I realize this is probably not what you want to hear but Jack Russels are a very strong willed dog, and should go through obediance training as soon as possible for a more enjoyable life.
puggles are great, energetic, loving and easy to train!
Do not get another dog with the expectation of it helping with your Jack Russell Terrier. When adding a new dog to your family, expect that the newcomer will follow the lead of your first dog. What you might end up with is two out-of-control dogs, or one bullied dog.
