Petsmart allows local shelters to bring the dogs in, so whatever the local shelter charges would be the cost. Cities have varying shelter costs.
Also-- local shelters in this area charge way more than $150. I have seen them try to get over three hundred for a purebred dog. They make big bucks from puppies, so they love to have them brought in. Shelter work is not done as a labor of love, it is a profit industry, or at least the ones I have seen a lot of are simply done for profit.
It depends on the rescue organization - I've seen puppies cost up to $150 because people don't realize exactly what they're getting into. Puppies are more likely to be returned to the rescue after they get older because some people think adult golden retrievers aren't cute (I wonder if we're talking about the same dogs sometimes...)
If you go to www.petfinder.com and find the puppy you like that will be at Petsmart, you can often go to the rescue organization's website and find out their fees.

Maybe rescues do have an adoption fee of $150.00 for mixed breeds but it's ALL eaten up with the pull fees, transporting fees and vetting. How much do you think it costs to spay/neuter a dog? Along with the shots, heartworm test, heartworm meds and if there is anything else wrong with the dog it will cost you well over $200. for a dog with an adoption fee of $150.00.
Yes iluvtorofl, rescues have to have a higher adoption fee for purebred dogs to offset all the other expenses that occurr daily. You don't have a stinkin' clue. UGH
I got mine from a place called PAWS in Louisiana it is a no kill pet adoption facility and he only cost 75 dollars.
