Dogs are social animals that bond very closely to people or other animals that they are familiar with. They lack the ability to "judge" so to speak, and love their "pack" members unconditionally.
Dogs are pack animals, and being pack animals, they rely on other members of the pack to survive. It is an instinct long held in the biology of all dogs. Their level of love differs depending on their pack ranking...ie if the dog regards you as the dominant member or another house memeber as dominant.

i think its because we are the ones that took them in and took care of them...and we were always there for them, we petted them, fed them, played with them..etc. they grow to trust us more and more and love you more and more each day
Hello Snowblossom. What a lovely name. I think dogs basically love us because we feed them. But in saying that our two springer spaniels love their mummy as much as they love me.Dogs are so generous with their affection. When we go to the park, our Springer Abbi wants to share her friendliness with everyone.We are retired and our dogs are with us all the time Have fun with your dog.
Does it matter why?? They have qualities about them that are better than most people.. They chose to be with people, even tho most people aren't even worthy of being around.. They are more trusting, more loving, and more forgiving.. Enjoy that, instead of questioning why..
Your dog would still love you even if you didnt feed it. I think it is a combination of their "pack" instinct and the fact that people have been domesticating dogs for centuries. The more affectionate and loving a dog was, the more likely a breeder would use it to breed the next generation... and so on.
Because they cannot think and reason like a human. Their brains are not wired like ours. They have no idea that there is another type of love. If they did, most people would be in serious trouble, don't you think?
