If you need to ask the question you really ought to be taking it to the vet.
Dogs are a different from people about pain.. a lot of them are stoic and try to hide it. From a dog's point of view showing pain makes them vulnerable... and thus potential prey.
maybe it's just sore because if it was broken, he would walk on 3 legs, raising the leg he broke
Most people on Yahoo can not answer your question. Call your vet asap.
is it limping
When it comes to your dogs health, don't trust what you read on here, take your dog to the vet. An improperly healed leg can result in walking problems for the rest of your little pups life.
u should take it to the vet even if u find out u still need to cure it
Get your Shihtzu pup to the vet for an x-ray! Those tiny bones are vulnerable to breaks when larger objects fall on them! I hope it's just a bruise, but don't take a chance...dogs can fool you by not showing consistant symptoms. Limping, or favoring one leg at any time should prompt a vet visit.
There's no way to tell if the leg was broken by feeling it. If it's a hairline fracture, there wouldn't be much change. Why chance having a break heal crookedly because it wasn't diagnosed? You're dog could end up with a malformed leg, or worse, if it's really broken.
My 4 month old puppy broke his leg two months ago. It took me 3 vets to have it diagnosed. By that time it had started to heal. Treatment was to keep him crated, out only to pee and in my lap for 6 weeks OR $1200 to have it rebroken and a pin/screw put in it. I opted for the first because if it didn't heal okay, the surgery would be the same. Re xrayed again last week, healed fine, TG.
If he keeps hopping on it, I'd be suspicious. Mine didn't make a peep when the Vet saw him within an hour of it happening! In the meantime, crate him doing what I had to do until you can take him to a Vet. But be prepared, it's not cheap but part of owning a dog.
Good luck.
Wow, change vets now. $200 just to do a quick exam?! WTH! They are ripping you off. Most times when a leg is broken it will be compeltly limp, like a rag dolls leg. They will usually just let the leg completly dangle. It sounds like your dog does have some injury, but it doesn't sound like a broken leg. Watch the dog for the next couple of days and see if it improves or not. If it doesn't , then you're going to have to take the dog to the vets.
the puppy might have pulled tendons or ligaments. even though a vet is expensive (goes with the turf in pet ownership) the dog needs to go.
