Question:I haven't had a problem with my pup in weeks. He let's me know when he needs to go out by going to the door. I have spent alot of time playing with him inside and as soon as we go out he looks relieved to go to the bathroom as if he had been trying to hold it.
Tonig ht I had remembered I had a spot or two where he had urinated in the past. I figured hearing alot of people talk about using vinigar here to make them think your marking your territory, I would go out and buy some and put it on the spots that I remember the dog peeing.
I kid you not, it wasn't maybe 30 seconds after I had marked a spot with vinigar that my pup started urinating a few feet from me. So what's the deal, did the vinigar actually make him want to pee or something?

You didn't mention how old he is. My 2 eskies that I have had since they were pups, were not completely potty trained until they were close to a year and a half old. They also came from households that did not keep a consistant potty schedule. Not sure if that is why it took them so long or not. But I do remember they would go weeks, making me think that I had finally done it and there were going to be no more accidents. Well then suddenly, there was an accident! Just keep being consistant in when he goes out. If you do catch him trying to go in house, immediately tell him NO and take him outside right away. Remember to always make a big deal out of it when he does go outside for you. Try giving him a treat right after he goes, while you are still outside.
I've used vinegar for accidents and have always had good luck with it. He may have just had to go at that moment and because you were busy cleaning didn't notice any signs.
I haven't heard of that. But I do know at home remedies don't always work on every single animal. So, I guess you just need to try another method.
only if he thinks hes the pack leader.start over
First thing you have to do with a dog is us the same dry food. Dry food is the best because it cleans there teeth and it is not full of water. Until house broke, the dog should only be feed once a day at the same time every day. Walk the dog after you feed it. And I mean walk do not just stand there. Then walk him again a half hour after that. You should walk him as many times a day as you can until house broke. Walking helps it pass the food. Walk it in the same place every day. When they smell there own potty it makes them have to go. When the dog goes in the house, clean it up with vinegar. This does 2 things kills the smell+vinegar has a urine bass smell and the dog thinks you r marking this as your turf. When the dog goes in the house put the potty outside where you want it to go. Remember smelling his potty makes him want to go. So no potty smell in the house but lots of potty smell outside. You should have a pin or create just big enough for him to lie down. Most dog will not potty where they lay. Do not put anything in the pin that will soak up pee. When you are not watching your dog, he should be in the pin. If he goes in the house, you should catch him in the act and grab him and yell no then take him outside. Clean it up and take the potty outside. So to rap this up. Walk him as much as you can tell him good boy when he goes outside. When your not watching him keep him it the pin. When he goes inside tell him bad boy and take him outside..
you mix vinegar with water & spray the spot where he had peed. that neutralizes the smell so it will not attract him to that same spot.
you said he went a couple feet away so he did not go on that spot.
clearly you are not getting him out often enough or keeping a good schedule
he might have a bladder infection, or simply you shoul take him out to pee a little more often. puppy's need to go more often because they can't hold it in like big dogs. as for the vinegar, if he already trained to go outside you don't have to use it as often. a little trick is to add some when you mop so that your dog will smell it.
What kind of vinegar was it? I don't have any personal experience with the effectiveness of vinegar in deterring puppies from urinating in specific places, but I do know that a product called "Nature's Miracle" works really well for neutralizing pet odor...that might be a good alternative to vinegar if your puppy continues to urinate where he smells vinegar.
P.S. Pitbull Man is dead wrong about a puppy needing to only eat one meal per day until it is potty trained. You probably already know this but...puppies need at least two meals (preferably three while they are younger) per day, and although it is tempting to limit a puppy's water intake while you are potty training, puppies need water just as much as they need food, so it's always wise to let them drink as much as they need.
ok...i've heard of vinegar to neutralize odors. But you're talkign about marking territory.Well, here's what i think...whether vinegar is or isn't a scent that would make a dog think you were marking...it is completely normal and natural for every male dog in the pack to serially mark a spot. If the pack leader marks there...everyone else does it too. So, no matter what vinegar does or doesn't...if HE thought YOU were marking...he pretty much HAD to do it.
spray the vinegar when the pup isn't around.
