usually a dog barks because its bored does she have things to entertain thoughout the day when the owner is away?
Kongs are a great entertainer you can put food in them like meat, canned food or peanut butter and the dog will spend hours licking it out you can make it a little harder by freezing the kong overnight so the food is frozen and takes a little longer to get out otherwise you can also use a treat ball that you fill with dry kibble and when she rools it over it dispenses the kibble. These 2 products are great and you can get them from your local petshop! also if she does already have toys maybe she has 2 many and is bored with them, you should give your dog 2-3toys ata atime and then swap them over every few days so they dont get bored with them!
But if all fails try a citronella collar before a shock collar when they bark it sprays citronella spray which isnt harmful to the dog at all they just hate the smell!!
Hope this helps! and GOOD LUCK

bring the dog to a doggie daycare! lol. i dont know. i just thought of that so the beagle wouldnt get lonely. and bark so much.
there's a device that makes a very high pitch beep everytime they bark it works well for my friend.
Try turning on a radio for the dog. This may sound strange but try classical.
Beagles are well known for their constant barking. This may not be the right dog for her if she needs him to be quiet all the time. These dogs were bred to bark constantly while chasing foxes.

It might be separation anxiety. Training might help. A shock collar might help or it might just traumatize the dog. De-barking is inhumane in my opinion.

Really, the barking is part of the breed and it may be very hard to train it out of him. Be careful when choosing a dog, people!
Hehe! My dogs name is Buddy and he barks a lot. My dog is 9 yrs old and we found that putting him in a room as a time-out when he barks helps but we are going to get a bark collar. The bark collars aren't cruel. They are just a small shock. Also, if the dogh doesn't like water, get a NEW spray bottle (like the kind Windex would be in but make sure its not used because the chemicals could hurt the dog even if you rinse it many times.) and spray him in the face, that helps my other dog, a 1-2 year old Australian Shepherd named Mr. Chumley
Beagles do not do well when left alone for long periods of time because of their extreme pack instinct. (and we work very hard to maintain that breed trate)
Sorry but that is just the way it is. As time goes on the barking will become only the tip of the iceburg.
With another dog they do a lot better, but they are still Beagles.
I would definitely tell her to consider doggie daycare. Where I live, it's $10-$12 per day for a small dog like a beagle, and he gets to run and play with all the other dogs there all day long. He loves it, and he comes home happy, tired, and sleeps like a rock.
This may not be something your friend can do, but get another dog. My Beagle does not bark or howl when I leave. But if I have to take one of the other dogs, a Chi/Rat Terrier and an ABPT, to the vet he goes nuts and howls the whole time I am gone even though my grandson and the other dog are there.
