My dog wont poop outside?

Question:we have a puppy whos about 5 months now. since we got him, he goes poop and pee in my daughters room. i take him out, he does scratch at the door, and he spends time on a chain outside. i dont have a kennel, but we did put a gate up in the kitchen which he can now jump over. he will poop and pee outside but whenever he gets the chance he goes in the kids bedroom. especally at night. i wake up and there is poop every morning. i shampoo the carpet to get rid of the smell and he will still go there. i cant shut the door cause they wont get the air conditioning in their room. this is the only place he will go in the house. i feed him twice a day the recommended amount and he poops about 3-4 times a day. usually 2x outside and 2x inside. i have small children one being a year old. im afraid that not only is it unsanitary but that im not going know its there and the baby get into it. any ideas?

I answered this one a few weeks back and got "thumbs down" from a number of ASPCA folks I guess. But it works and it's from a very famous animal trainer for Hollywood.

First of all, you have to control the dogs eating habits. You must feed it regular times in the day. Make it so that they eat all of the food you put down, "no left overs in the dish." Then immediately, take your dog outside and wait with them till they "do their business."

Now for the spots that they do inside. Remember that dogs and cats put down with their stools and urine an "acid" that they know from another dog/cat. They can tell by the amount of acid on the spot (sniff-sniff.) You have to relate to them in their "domain!" You must spot over their spot. This is telling them that this is your spot! Now you must first clean up the area real good, remove all their "acid" and on top of that spot place an "acid replacer" so they know this is you. Use vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray a tiny amount over the prior spot. Bring your dog to the spot and let them sniff it!

Repeat, all of the above, in five days, if they still do it, write me for step two ( I use to put in my response but some people believe you don't discipline your dog, go figure, what do you want an undisciplined dog that goes to the pound or rescue or an obedient dog?)

Neither will I.
same thing happened to me!! shes so stuborn.. she poops outside once in awhile
you could put some of your kids things outside and let him about poop or pee on them just to see if its just the objects he is interested in, then try to get noew things, or just rub his face in it then put him outside, or put his poop outside then rub his face in it
You have to buy a kennel and crate train him, it's the only way and is the fastest way also. Goolge crate training puppies.
Take him for a long walk before going to bed. The more dogs walk the more they poop. Take him out for a long walk before the other time he poops. In fact make all the walks longer and 4x a day. Good Luck.
Becuz it is cold outside?
try putting gates around so he cant get into your daughters room, and go to pet-co and ask for a cleaner that will get rid of what your dog still smells from his bathroom visits in your daughters room. this will help a lot! then also ask for pee pee pads. they arent very expenisive. and put them outside so your dog will go there more!
You need the help of a dog trainer and a crate. You probably need only one session, but it will be invaluable to you and the dog or I see you becoming so frustrated you will get rid of the dog. The gate is good though, just not enough. Good luck to you and the pup-pup.
put a gate on the door of the room. when you want him to poo outside dont put him on a chain. when he goes praise him and give him a treat
This could be a jealousy issue, the dog might be jealous of your children. You do need to get a crate for him and feed him in the crate (the dog views the crate as a den or bedroom for himself and he shouldn't poop or pee in his den). Take him out for longer walks, if you're close to a doggie park, let him play there until he's tired, a tired pup is a good pup.

For the cleaning, shampooing the carpets may not be enough to get the smell out, try patting the spot dry with baking soda, and then vacuum the baking soda up when dry. It tends to soak up the liquid AND the smell.

Good luck.
A lot of the people who answered is right about the crate. You should put you pup in the crate at nite. Stop feeding about 6. That means no food or water after 6. Before you go to bed let the pup out side to go to the bathroom. Then put him in the crate at nite. He may cry some until he gets used to staying in but he will get better. You may have to do this for a while before he gets the idea. This is what I had to do with my dog but after she turned a year old she no longer goes in the house. Good luck.
