Will my dog stink?

Question:I am considering getting a yorkshire terrier? Will the dog make my home smell? i know dogs tend to have a "wet dog" smell. But will that smell just take over my house? Will proper grooming and bathing prevent that from happening, or is it unavoidable completely? please help!

Answers:
Yes, the dog will more than likely stink. What I do, between bathing my dogs who are kept indoors, is I spray them with a cucumber melon spray made by Animal Pharmaceuticals that I buy from my vet's office. 10 bucks for the spray, but works immidately and well worth it. To keep my rugs and carpet smelling fresh, I spray them with febreeze or All Fresh spray. If it is hot, my dogs go outside and use the bathroom and come right back in and can stink so I spray them and go on with my day. I do understand how you feel though because I have a very sensitive sense of smell and I can't stand things that stink. Get the puppy, love it and have fun!

all dogs have a bit of a smell but with good bathing, grooming this should be kept at a low level.

and have a dog and nope the smell does not take over the house but then I clean alot as well....some of the toys can get a bit smelly so I tend to clear out her toy box quite a lot and throw them out.

regards
No your house will not stink if you keep it clean. I have a Yorkie and a cat and my house doesn't stink. Most people don't even realize we have two pets unless we tell them.
well anything could make your house smell . the smell of wet dog only has that smell when u give ur dog a bath
IF you let your dog roll in poo ( which can be unavoidable) and swim in smelly rivers/ jump in puddles or behave like a dog, then chances are your dog is going to smell a bit.
Dogs do have a natural doggy odour, and even bathing everyday and grooming well will not combat this.
Your house will smell different, and there will be muddy pawprints and fallen out hairs on the floor.
This is unavoidable im afraid, even with a small dog.
Wet dogs also smell the worst!!
Excuse me please, but that is the oddest question I have seen on here.

IF you maintain your Yorki's grooming he/she won't smell. You have him/her groomed every 5 weeks or whatever your groomer thinks is needed. I have TWO Maltese & they never smell. BUT they are known not to smell like dogs because of their fur type. None of the small breeds should smell if you maintain their care.

I think the larger dogs smell because they do not get bathed & groomed like the smaller breeds do. If your dog is only bathed every 2-3 months, there is going to be a "doggy odor" in your house.

EDIT NOTE: I just read some of the other answers. Maltese dogs DO not smell even when wet. They never smell & they never shed. YES, of course, if they roll in something, they will smell. We would too..lol..I think the YORKIES are the same way as the Maltese. MAYBE they don't smell when wet because we blow them dry as we comb them out. When you blow dry & comb, it is easier to keep them mat free. ALWAYS use a blow dryer set on the lowest setting when you dry them.
umm... wet dog smell happens when a dog is ... WET.

I agree with the other posters. DONT get a dog, you seem to know nothing about them. Get a fish tank.
