Is it safe to give a dog OTC meds?

Question:I've heard its okay to give your dog ib-profen but is it ok to give them tylenol for minor pain?

Answers:
Absolutely not- unless you want to pay a lot to your veterinarian for saving your pet. Never give a pet an OTC unless directed by your veterinarian. All drugs are processed through the liver and kidneys. Dog and cat kidneys/ liver do not function like a humans and they cannot process some drugs like humans. Even a little bit of tylenol can seriously damage and even kill your pet.

Other Answers:
Check with your vet before administering any meds to any pet.

some meds are okay but tylenol is not one of them .. Call your vet They will tell you..you have to know dosage per weight and all of that.. Be Careful.
A baby aspirin is safer than ibuprophen, but only give occasionally, as it can cause internal bleeding.

Your vet will prescribe the best med for the different kinds of pain.
Do NOT give your dog Tylenol. Depending on the size, one buffered aspirin will help with your dogs pain. But should not be given every day. And IB-profen can cause stomach problems. This advice was given to me by my vet, when my dog jumped off our deck and strained her front leg.
Some are OK for most otherwise healthy dogs.
Here's a website with otc meds that are safe with the dosage by weight

If you don't know what you are treating, then you should probably see a vet first.
