What are the signs that a dog is going deaf?

Question:I suspect my 12 year old border collie/samoyed cross dog is going deaf. She's been very whiney and either she's ignoring me sometimes when I call her, or she's not hearing me. What signs should I be looking for?

Answers:
my old poodle started a few months ago. when you would call him he looked everywhere but at me. I went behind him and called his name and he just didn't hear me. he could hear the other dogs barking but not regular small barks or talking. you will notice your dog shaking his head and looking around and when you talk to him he will have to face you. 12 years is a pretty good age so just enjoy her and look at her when you talk. she might have a ear infection or if she is swaying her ears might be full. the vet will be able to tell you.

Have her checked at the vet.
Take her to the vet and voice your concerns there. Not only do you not know who may answer these questions, you don't know at all if anyone who says they know what they're talking about really does.

And besides, different dogs could have different signs of such things, just like people. Nobody on here can really give you a definite answer.
Get her checked out by vet my old dog went deaf and was never whiny. She might have a bad ear infection that causing her to be deaf and causing her alot of pain.
If it keeps saying "what?"
I have a Bull Terrier that has always been deaf. You wouldn't know. It sounds like more going on than being deaf though. I'd see the vet and have him take a look.
