Where can I buy a corgi in Northern California?

Question:I looking to purchase my first puppy/dog. I have my eyes set on a pembroke welsh corgi. I did my research and they're perfect for me. But I do not want to buy from anything out-of-state (I fear they will be from puppy mills) or adopt from a shelter. I'm looking for a breeders around northern california particulary the bay area. Please answer if you know anyone who breeds.

I'll settle for a pekingese if there's no corgi breeders locally.

these are all for adoption starting in San Francisco and getting further. If you are dead set on a purebred don't get discouraged byt the mixes -there are some purebred in there. Good luck- please adopt.
http://www.petfinder.com - click "Shelter and Rescue Groups".

There are breed-specific rescue groups for almost every breed you can imagine, who will vet check the dogs and usually keep them in a foster home environment.

And yes - purebreds often end up in rescue.

Save a life - adopt from rescue!
Sounds like you're going about this the right way!

Looks like there are several in CA. Go to the following link and select your state:
http://www.pembrokecorgi.org/memberlist.

These are members of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America, which means they are very involved in the breed.

There are also a few Corgi clubs in California that could probably refer you to some good breeders:

Good luck!
The easiest was is to look online which you probably already did. I would go online also, and check newspapers close to my area. Also you could ask your vet.
Contact the National breed club and they'll put you in touch with breeders in your area. Link below. I am on the central coast of Cal but our neighbor got his corgis from a breeder in Fresno, so they're around.

You should really consider contacting a rescue organization instead of buying from a breeder. DEFINTELY avoid buying from a pet store - it sounds like you already know that. There are great purebred Pems and Cardigans that need homes for a variety of reasons, and a rescue group will have done a temperament evaluation (they don't take biters into rescue, etc.). I got a young Pembroke girl through a rescue in Florida almost a decade ago, papers and all, that had been surrendered by a family who was moving from a home into an apartment that didn't allow pets. She was already housebroken and altered, and has been such a joy. Also, instead of paying a ton of money to a breeder, I just paid a small adoption fee. Saving a dog's life is a great feeling that you won't get from purchasing from a breeder.
