How come my dog takes food away from her bowl?

Question:My dog will take food in her mouth, like a hampster, and go drop it in "hiding places"? She is a terrier(feist),female,14 lbs,and has had puppies.

Answers:
It doesn't really matter what breed they are when they do this. my mini poodle does this. It's just natural instinct. See, when dogs were wild, they used to bury their extra food so no other animal could get to it, and so they wouldn't starve. I guess this is just an instinct that wasn't dropped when dogs became domesticated!

she thinks the bowl is ugly
It's normal. Get her spayed.
Sounds like she is stock piling food for the future in case she goes hungry. Why do you think dogs bury bones in the yard. Its so they can get them latter when they are hungry.
My friend has a dog that will take a mouth full of food out of the bowl carry it to what ever room you are in then drop it on the florr to eat it. It doesn't like to eat alone.
My pom takes a mouthfull of food into whatever room I'm in, drops the food out of her mouth, and eats it a piece at a time. It's actually pretty common in small breeds. Some say it's a form of separation anxiety. I think it's because she likes to eat with me!
If she is hiding the food, it may be best to keep her in an isolated area while feeding. It will keep her from being able to take her food and hide it.
My min pin takes mouthfulls of food and puts it in my bedroom and when she has a good amount (varies by her mood), she will eat it all in there. I refuse to move her feeding dish into my bedroom, but it doesn't really bother me that she eats in there - as long as she gets all the little pieces!
Don't worry in away its normal, my dogs do it all the time. Some times dogs dont like it when people watch them eat and other times its just a preffrence. Try putting her bowl in her "hiding place" and see if she still takes it some where else.
Because it's fun. I don't know what specifically makes a dog do that but if there's no harm done then let her do her weirdo Terrier thing!
My 5-year old Golden Retriever does that too.
Yes, pomerenians do it. I guess they are too prissy to eat out of a dish.
My pug does this all the time. It is normal.
