I liked that one person said "obedient dogs". That is why I love labs! They are loyal, obedient , gentle, and yet, big enough to bark loudly when an unknown person comes to the door.

any dog can be the "best" kind, it just depends on what you want. I have a border collie and he is soooo smart. And easily trained.

and I have a jack russel mix and she is smart, too. She's very agile and a little ball of energy.

It just depends on what qualities you want in a dog.
I have had purebred dogs but now I rescue at the shelter. I love my "Mutts" there not inbred and are the best, smart and fun.I have a Lab something and a shepherd x healer, Check on breed characteristics they are true. My lab is 140 lbs of dog easy going always has his ball not a great watchdog, the shepherd is alway on the alert and heals the big lab funny to see.
it depends on whether you want a small dog or big dog, or if you have alot of time to spend with your dog. if you have a small yard you might not want a dog that needs alot of excersise.
golden retrievers!
