Question:My boyfriend is getting a pug tomorrow! :) I am buying the dog a collar and a leash. The dog was born a little chubby, I just wondered what size collar I should get for the pug?

That is the collar I am getting...any ideas? He says I should get a small size, but I am debating between that and a medium. Ideas?
Answers:
Hi Meg H, just wrap a piece of ribbon around his neck with room for two of your fingers to fit between and mark the ribbon. Then just take it to the pet store and tell them this is the Minimum size.
just measure the neck and add two inches to that. that should be the size u should buy. the collars should be marked hope this helps
my honest opinion is wait until the dog is full grown
If not measure teh neck adn add about 2 inches
yea, he doesnt really need a collar until he gets alittle bigger, my pug when she was a puppy we got her one and she use to itch itch itch it, so just a wait a bit, but if ya gotta have one I would go with Medium and just make it small! :)
All dogs should not only have a collar but also tags. You will need to buy a series of collars if the dog keep growing (we have been through 4 sizes of collars as our dogs have grown from puppyhood to adulthood). Granted, pugs don't get/grow as much as our labs have. But the first person is correct - measure the neck and buy the appropriate size collar (many of them tell you this many inches to that many inches).
But please also put tags on the collar. Rabies, and a name/contact info tag!
Probably the small.a lot of times they are smaller than you picture them to be. However, he will probably grow out of it quickly ...then you would need the medium.
The best thing to do is get a harness much easier on their necks. "Puppia" is a great brand and you can order it online in various colors". I have one for my Jack Russell and she has no problem with it. I see pugs all the time at the local dog park and almost all of them have the Puppia harness. I only put the harness on her when she is out walking and she keeps her regular color on all the time.

I have a pug. When he was a puppy I think he was in a small, x-small depending on the sizing of the collar. Now he is up to a small (on the largest hole) or a medium (on the smallest hole). He is right in between.
Just make sure it fits so that it won't easily slip off his head, but that it also won't cut into his neck. You could always buy two and take back the one you don't need.
