Question:i'm sick of people advertising puppies as "purebred" labradoodle or "registered" goldendoodle heck i'm sick of all these freak combo "designer" dogs.
say it like it is the dog is a mutt, it's not such a bad thing. the only difference is that a mutt will cost you 50 bucks and the same dog claiming to be a labradoodle will set you back 600 bucks.
anyone else sick of these designer dogs?
Answers:
I get tired of the people that try to scam with them. The people that claim they are breeders but really dont care about the dogs, they care about money. Designer dogs are just the latest scam and it makes me so angry.
My dog is a mutt, she's half schnauzer half cocker (both her parents apparently were AKC registered, yet for some reason her mom's owner turned the puppies over to the Humane Society rather than selling them) She seems like the kind of breed people would use as a "designer dog" but she is a mutt (cracks me up because kids chase her saying "Look! Its Lady and the Tramp's baby!" yet I never see ads for "schnockers" :P
I think labradoodles and pekapoos have their place, in fact, after Chelsea, Id be more inclined to get a mix than a pure breed, but these people that say they are registered or purebreed make me furious. They are just scamming people out of money.
Also, the people that do these things typically arent responsible breeders and there is a huge problem with the dogs being inbred, causing more harm to the dogs and the breed. So, these people that dont know better think they are paying for a purebreed dog, when infact that are getting a mutt that is more likely to have health problems, and the mother of the puppy spends her whole life pregnant and as her owners own little money factory.
Hopefully it is just a fad that will pass. I adore mutts of any type, but these scammers need to be taught a lesson somehow.
yeah I am sick of it too. it's crazy!!
Not me! I have a puggle and she is the best part of my life...I didn't pay 600 for her but I easily would have! However..I do acknowledge the fact that she is a mixed breed and puggles are not an actual breed.
Yeah the whole thing is crazy.it amazes me the gimmicks people fall for. Especially when they search for "reliable breeders of labradoodles or puggles" ...when no reliable breeder should be mixing two dog breeds purposely.
I think a lot of people are often unaware of what they are doing too though..I'm like an obsessive dog person so I did tons and tons of research before I got my dog from the breeder and I knew exactly what I wanted.
However, some people just see a dog and decide to get it like that day. Many people buy dogs without even knowing what they are getting into or that puppy mills exist.
It's nothing more than greed and creative advertising.
If that isn't bad enough, people are dumb enough to buy into it and spend their money.
A mutt is a mutt is a mutt!
Designer dogs are for poseur-yuppies who drive Beamers or foreign SUVs, eat sushi at least once a week, get their coffee at Starbucks because they can't be bothered to learn how to make it at home, shop at Pier 1 or Bombay Company for home furnishings, and would rather wear glasses with $1,000 Armani frames than contact lenses. Did I go a little overboard on the stereotyping? I hope so. Poseur-yuppies are scum trying to front themselves as nouveau-riche.
P.S.: As much as I hate designer dogs, I REALLY like Labradors -- heck, I'll just get one from the Humane Society.
oh whateverrr
calm downnnn
=)
I am! if we are calling these dogs designer dogs, than most likely almost every dog down at the shelter will be a designer dog! they are all mutts! why dont we just call them that.. and i would never pay that much money for a dog that i know i could save from a shelter.
Rock on Ani you should put out an ad for schnockers and you will probably craze the population with a whole new "breed".
I think it is stupid how the same people who are going out and spending hundreds of dollars to buy their labradoodle are the same people who are saying they would never get a humane society mutt puppy but that is exactly what they are spending the money on. I think these people should go to a shelter and get a dog and donate the $500 they just saved to the shelter!
The Labradoodle, Yorkipoo, Cockapoo, and Schnoodle are the latest designer hybrid dogs to hit the catwalk.
"Crossing breeds, adding a fanciful name, and charging outrageous sums for these dogs [labradoodles can cost up to U.S. $2,500]
Despite the stigma faced by hybrids, they are not barred from eventually becoming pure breeds. In order to make the leap from a lowly mutt to a pure breed officially recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), the breed must satisfy a number of criteria. There must be at least 300 Labradoodles within the U.S. and distributed among at least 20 states. The dogs must have a National Breed Club demonstrating interest, and there must be at least a three generation pedigree—three generations of Labradoodle-to-Labradoodle matings.
Yes!! These designer chicks that buy a dog like you would buy a purse make me ill!!
Why do people care if they are purebred? It doesn't affect temperament. Mixed breeds are pretty too. They should be treated and priced based on temperament, not breed.
I am especially sick of these "designer dogs". They are mutts people! I work in a shelter and we have a bunch of "designer" dogs and you can come adopt one for a small adoption fee. But no one wants a shelter dog, everyone wants a dog with papers. They never look in a shelter . So people are busy looking in the paper for their puggle, their labradoodle, or whatever mix it may be, that they don't realize really good dogs, "designers", purebreds, and mutts of all types and sizes are being killed every day. Just because someone is so concerned about "papers" and appearances. They want to be able to tell their friends that they got the latest fashion in dogs. Dogs are living beings that feel pain and neglect and capable of happiness and love at the same time. They aren't fashion accessories or something to "one-up" your friends with. We get in up to 300 pets a month. On a good month we adopt out maybe 50-75. You do the math.
P.S.< I've seen these designer mixes, and though they may have a shining personality, they are the ugliest dogs I have ever seen. I think people randomly think of what will sound good... "a beagle and a pug? Oh, that would be a cute name, we could call it a puggle!" I think it is a fad that people will soon enough get sick of.
I think the crosses are a bad thing, and the designer dogs are nothing but mongrels. Give me a sweet little Jack Russell any day.
Here is the thing, at one point most dogs were mutts if crossed bred to perfect a bred of dog. Now the word designer I hate. What there doing is offering a new bred of dog that it just so happens stars want for the size and notoriety. So the dog it self are most of the times beautiful and gentle, they just downsized them a little ,gave a funny name sometimes and now its a crave. Hey do you wear wedges or streak your hair or even buy those new boots? Its a fashion statement that eventually fades away.
Designer dogs are mutts - they are not purebred and cannot be registered with the AKC, or any reputable organization.
This is just a con game to get money from people too ignorant and status seeking to figure out they are paying big money for a mutt.
This is not to say that mutts don't make wonderful pets, but you get really great ones at shelters for very reasonable cost. You save a dog's life and get a dog that appeals to you because what you see is what you get. A mixed breed puppy can have the worst genetic traits of both parents, there is absolutely no guaranty that the best of both breeds will show up in the puppies - more likely to be all the genetic diseases and problems.
It is criminal that mixed breeds are advertised as "designer" and even sadder that there are people out there ignorant enought to buy them.
Pathetic!!
I guess the big thing that ticks me off about it is people claim mixed breeds don't have as many health problems as a purebred.
Come on people. Labradoodle: Lab x Poodle... "hypoallergenic" my ****! If it has hair/fur or skin, it has dander. If you take the genetics and hereditary issues each of those two breeds are prone to and toss them together, you're ending up with something that has either twice as many issues or compounded problems. You can't actually believe those that are crossing breeds are doing genetic health testing. Just because they had "AKC registered" dogs of two different breeds does not mean they are AKC standard for their breed or clear of genetic health problems.
My breed of choice is the Doberman Pinscher. With all of the health testing that is available these days, all of my dogs are thoroughly tested. Reputable/responsible breeders will do complete health screening and temperament testing to ensure they are not passing on poor health issues or temperment issues.
These BYB pumping out mixed breed dogs and calling them "designer dogs" are not breeding for the betterment of anything but their bank accounts!
Trina: I don't see how you can compare a pair of shoes to the dogs that are being killed EVERY day, because of these breeders. Look at the laws they are passing about spay/neuter, and it's because the counties and states are paying to destroy so many unwanted dogs (and cats) already that these GREEDERS are producing.
I agree. I also get tired of the 'purebreds didn't start pure' defense. There is a huge difference between developing a breed and the random/casual breeding of anything to anything for cash. Oh, yes...and the "hybrid vigor" scam. First of all, all dogs (regardless of breed) are the same species. Designer dogs are not hybrids! A hybrid is the mix of two different species, not two different breeds. Same Family classification, but different species.that is a hybrid. Secondly, breed a Cocker with or carrying PRA (or any other bad gene) to a Poodle with or carrying PRA (or w/the same bad gene)...and guess what? You get a litter with PRA (or whatever defect the parents had or carried)! If you want health, you'll only get it with health screening. Of course, the mix breeders won't test, because it's all about profit.
Why is everyone so crazy about this topic? Regardless if it is "pure" or "designer" they are all living things. I'm the proud mother of two dogs! One is a pure Bichon and the other is yeah - you got it - one they would call a designer dog! She's a lasapoo - They're both perfect the way they are - they are living and that's all that matters. There are other things in life people should get more agrivated about. Leave these dogs alone. As long as there are people to care for them and love them, let them be what ever they are.
