Question:Why is everyone obsessed with tiny 2 lb dogs?
My Yorkie is 5 lbs.. and he seems perfectly fine to me.
I also have a 20 lb Jack Russel terrier and he is soo
handsome and well body structured.
Yet, my "friend" keeps saying that she wants a
little girl chocolate Chuiaia (however you spell it,)
and she only wants it to weigh 1-2 pounds.
Don't you think 1 lb is unhealthy for a full-sized dog?
Plus, whats wrong with bigger dogs?
My Jack Russel is like, the sweetest most human-like
personality ever and I love him soo much, and he isn't 2 lbs.
And my 5 lb Yorkie is amazingly cute as well.
Answers:
your friend is immature like stupid paris hilton and her dog its not right that everyone wants an anorexic tiny doggie
poor little things!!
it sounds like she wants the dog as a fashion accessory.
you are right. your friend sounds a little immature..
eww nasty dogs poop
Breeding dogs of that size is cruel. Not only that but if I wanted a 1-2lbs pet, I would get a pet rabbit or guinea pig. I would be terrified of stepping on a 1-2lbs dog. People who are breeding these 'dogs' should be locked up.
I'd have to agree with you, I have a rat terrier (very similar to a jack) and she is awesome. Plays all the time, you don't have to worry about killing it if your playing with her. Those small dogs are trendy... No one should buy a dog just because it is the "in" thing to do. Thats just dumb...
The way they get dogs of that size is to breed the "runts" of litters. As sometimes the runts of litters have medical problems when 2 runts are bred these problems are multiplied which means the puppies of these runts are will have their problems multiplied.
I have a beautiful Pom puppy & he is 13 weeks old. He is now 5.5lbs weight which is large for a Pom,but he's not over weight, he's taking after his father.
Your friend needs to realise if she does get a miniature Chow that there is a high risk of the dog having MAJOR health problems!
I have no idea. To me a 20lb dog is perfect. Big enough to play with most other dogs. But small enough not to be a pain in the ***. Anything less then Five pounds is unhealthy.
Wow..
I read online about the smallest fullsize Yorkie: 1 1/2 lbs, and died at like, only 7 months old.
Anything under like, 5 is just unhealthy, as many others said.
When a dog is born extra small, we call it a runt. Only when it's a Chihuahua does some fool think it's cool and call it a "teacup." Here is an article on so-called teacups: http://www.cameochihuahuas.net/general_m...
Please share it with your friend and also let her know that Chihuahuas (and other dogs) of any size are living, breathing, feeling little beings. They are not a fashion accessory. Know why Paris H. no longer carries hers around? It got too big!
The chihuahua standard(the blueprint for breeding the correct looking Chihuahua) states.. Chihuahua Breed Standard
Toy Group
General Appearance
A graceful, alert, swift-moving little dog with saucy expression, compact, and with terrier-like qualities of temperament.
Size, Proportion, Substance
Weight - A well balanced little dog not to exceed 6 pounds. Proportion - The body is off-square; hence, slightly longer when measured from point of shoulder to point of buttocks, than height at the withers. Somewhat shorter bodies are preferred in males. Disqualification - Any dog over 6 pounds in weight.
The yokie standard states...Weight
Must not exceed seven pounds.
So any Chihuahua under 6lbs and yorkie under 7lbs is correct to tthe standard as far as weight. In general the smaller the dog the more problems. My g/f has a 1.5lb Chihuahua and she has skin problems, teeth problems and was never spayed so will probably die younger than needed due to being unspayed and having rotting teeth. Tiny dogs need special care to be put under and my vet will not put a dog under weighing less than 4lbs w/o running certain tests. Tiny dogs usually lose their teeth and need lots of teeth care while they do have them. They often need special diets since to keep up their weight they need to be fed a high calorie low substance food. I did know a Chi breeder in Mass. who had many tinies that were basically healthy but feeding them was a chore. Personally I have 5 MinPins, 2 of which are 6lbs and small enough for me. I dog sat my g/f's Chihuahua and had to have her drag a piece of string so I would be able to catch her if needed. I've done MinPin rescue for over 20 yrs and had many oversized pins that were very nice pets but poor MinPin examples. The bigger dogs, over 10lbs, seem to have less teeth issues and are hardier. They don't break a leg jumping off the couch. But the oversized, over 12.5" at the shoulder, are better for kids since they are sturdier.
your friend just wants to be popular and have everyone say "AWW SHE IS SO CUTE!"
djerrtrttrerrt
I also have a 23lb dog (not overweight -some sort of beagle mix). He's one of the biggest dogs in the neighbourhood. He's very long and skinny- and his colours are beautiful. People are always telling me how cute he is and that he is the perfect size (he's fully grown).
He likes to play rough with the big dogs then cuddle up on my lap. If he falls off the couch mommy just kisses it better. He can run up to 3.5 miles now (he's full of energy).
He's 23lb of sweetie :)
I do laugh at all the 'teacup' people. What will happen if you chihuahua weighs more than 3lb fully grown- will you stop loving it? Why is it such a big deal if your Yorkie is 7lb vs 3lb? STATUS :( It's like all the people buying their 'purebreds' from puppymills or backyard breeders than looking down on me because my dog is from a shelter- at least I didn't support animal abuse or irresponsible breeding. And the people who breed these dogs ARE backyard breeders :(
I dont know. I hate small dogs like that. I have a collie/st. bernard/german shepherd dog and he is huge but a big huge teddy bear. I had a husky/collie dog and she was perfect. I have a 13'' beagle that is about 30 pounds and she's a sweetheart. Little tiny dogs are annoying and never shut up. My neighbor has 4 chawawahs(how ever you spell it. The little taco bell dogs) and I get little sleep because of them yipping all night.
I guess you friend is just looking for a fashion accessory. I myself would be afraid to own a dog that only weighed 1-2 lbs. They would be so delicate. I would be afraid of them getting hurt.
I own 4 wonderful miniature pinscher - Skittle Bug - 2yrs.
My very 1st minpin - male weight 12lbs and he is definitely not the standard size for the breed. If you can tell by his name, I didn't think he would get as big as he did, but I love him the same.
My 2nd minpin - female weighs 11-12lbs - Piper -3yrs. She was 2 when I got her. I just love her like crazy and she is completely opposite of my male. He is hyper and loud and she is laid back and quiet.
My other 2 minpins are the puppies from my adults. They are 13 wks old. Both are females and of course they are puppies, so they are still quite hyper, which they may never grow out of. Right now they weigh between 2-4lbs maybe more. I haven't weighed them recently. But they will get bigger. I love all my minpins and I am happy with them no matter how big they are.
Getting a dog of only 1-2lbs is just down right crazy. What's even crazier is breeding them to be that small.
the ppl who tell other ppl quite CLEARLY tht they r buying some kind fashonista doogie.is acctually a big SHOW OF.SOME PPL NEVER UNDERSTAND THAT ITS NOT THE BREED THAT IS IMPORTANT BUT HOW MUCH U LOVE HIM ...
Breeding dogs of that size is cruel. Not only that but if I wanted a 1-2lbs pet, I would get a pet rabbit or guinea pig. I would be terrified of stepping on a 1-2lbs dog. People who are breeding these 'dogs' should be locked up.
