Question:I have a 3 month old dachshund puppy who had ringworm on her ear when I adopted her. At her most recent vet visit, her skin culture came back negative for ringworm.
She still has a big bald spot on her ear. When can I expect her hair to start growing back? It has been about three weeks.
Answers:
Ringworm is not a Parasite. A lot of people believe that by mistake.
Ringworm is actually a fungus infection on the skin. It is highly contagious. You can get it from your puppy - or your puppy got it from somebody else that was infected.
It can be killed by using an antifungal cream. I'm assuming your Vet shaved your puppy's ear down to the skin so he could treat its skin.
Anyway - dog hair grows like human hair - it'll grow back in a couple of weeks. Before you know it the dog will have his/her ear hairy again.
Oh - if you let your doggy go out in the sun - you may want to put sunscreen on his bald spot. Dogs can get sunburn on bare skin. Especially if the Dog's hair is light colored to begin with -
Good luck - and keep checking your skin out for patches that look ring like - if you see any - go see your doctor or dermatologist.

Ringworm is really hard on the skin, and it can take a while for the skin to heal completely even after the parasite is gone. Sometimes in severe cases it never grows back, but most of the time it comes back within 4-8 weeks after the parasite is gone.
Certain scars can cause hair grow to be slow or even not grow back. My male JRT used to eat his hair off his backside, due to bad flea problem last year (so much better now) and it took alittle over a month for the hair to start to grow back. You can ask your vet or wait it out alittle longer and she if any hair trys to come through.
it may take up to a year...but it will come back..give her alittle extra vitamins
