Is my dog jealous?

Question:We have this little stray puppy running around here, and today I got home from work and went straight around the house to give my dog and the lil puppy some water. What I've noticed is that my dog is ok when I'm not outside or in sight, but when I'm outside and the lil stray dog comes up to me and tries to play with me, my dog goes CRAZY!! He barks like crazy, bites on the fence, and everything, but its only like this when I'm outside and the lil dog is around, but when I am not in sight, he's as calm as a mouse! Is he jealous, and what are some other signs of a dog being jealous?? Thanks!!

the best thing to do is ignore the new pup and give your dog the attention then he wont be so jealous

It's definately jealousy. Just remember to give them both the same amount of affection, so your dog will realize it's okay and there's nothing to worry about.
Sounds like jealousy to me. I know that my dog can be completely ignoring me but if I try to pet another dog she will come over and push that dog away.
What I don't understand is why you haven't taken the ill stray pup to an animal shelter or better yet a vet.

About the jealousy issue your doggie doesn't want to share you! ;) This stems from it wanting to be "alpha-male".
He is very likely being jealous and protective. You are after all the be all and end all, THE owner, his master, his friend.
Some dogs will take to another dog better than others when it enters into their life. Some will be so jealous they pout, refuse to eat, will give you the cold shoulder.
While you are not their the stray poses no threat to your dog and therefor he will not do anything. When you ARE there there is a conflict of interest. Although I don't recommend not having your dog fenced while you are with the stray, the fact that he is while you are spending your time with other dog makes him jealous as well.
It might be that your dog is used to getting all the attention and now that there is another dog and he is getting the attention instead he may not know how to act. He could be upset that he is not getting the attention and is trying to get YOUR attention by doing those things. So my advice to you would be to keep the little dog inside when you are playing with him and spend quality time together with your dog.
i don't think it's jealousy

i think it's just that since the stray dog isn't actually yours, then the other dog thinks you need to give it more attention

it's greed if anything
You bet your pooch has bitten bitten by the green eyed monster! Probably a good idea to introduce them to each other slowly, this will avoid your pooch wanting to eat poor stray puppy should they meet. I had a similar problem with a neighbours dog. I used to greet and pet him hello as I walked in the door to my own "babies" My big boy (rottweiler cross) was not impressed and decided that the neighbours dog would make good lunch. It took quite a while for them to make friends in small installments but was well worth the effort. Good Luck and i hope you adopt the stray!
Your dog is definitely jealous. You will only be positively reinforcing his bad behavior by giving him attention when he does this stuff. You should ignore him in order to have him stop. It will take a lot of time and patience. If he gets jealous of this other puppy and you allow him to think that it is okay, he will do it with other things or people. This will make things really bad.
