When do puppy's growth plates close?

Question:When do puppys growth plates close? My 8 m. old pup loves to jump threw hoops and i want to start her in agility. But how long do you have to wait to jump her? And what can you do to help her joints grow strong.

Answers:
That depends entirely on her breed. Generally speaking, the larger the dog the later the growth plates close.

Contact your agility club and ask.

practice running with her to make her strong
Depending on what breed dog it is will help determine the aproxamite age that all the bones in the body will be completely made of bone instead of having gaps of cartalige. Usually by one years old all growth plates throughout the body are closed but it again depends on how large the dog. Usually larger dogs take a few more months for the bones to keep growing therefore the growth plates will remain until the dog is 14-18 months. It's safe for your pup to start doing small jumps but I'd wait until the dog is a year old to do higher jumps. Hope I helped. Good luck
