How about instead of THROWING YOUR DOG into the water, why don't you play near the shore with a toy or stick and slowly begin to enter the water? Throw the toy into the water, shallow first and then walk in and coax your dog into the water. The dog might not go right in and start swimming right away. It might take a few attempts but at least you are making it fun and not scaring him/her into it.
The next person who advocates throwing a dog into the water should take the nearest toddler and throw him/her into the water. Same effect. Children know how to swim too.
do a dog paddle if he is watching u maybe he will want to swim
I believe swimming (dog paddle) comes naturally
i thought all dogs knew how to swim
humans are the only living thing that needs to be taught how to swim
put your dog in the water, stay near to him for moral support, and let him paddle like nature taught him to.only let him swim for short durations, until he gets more sure of himself, and he will be swimming like a pro in no time
Dogs instinctlively know how to swim. Just slowly introduce them to the water and if they want to, they'll jump on in.
Start her out in a little kiddy pool (how about one of the small plastic ones you can buy at walmart for like $15) to get her used to the water. This will be easier if she is a smaller dog because you can gradually fill it more until she/he cannot touch and has to swim. Make sure you are always by his/her side when you teach her/him this. You don't want to drown your dog. If it is a larger dog taking it to a lake may be better. That way it can go out as far as it wants. You could also toss a tennis ball into the water to encourage the dog to swim.
Just thow him into a pool I never seen a dog that cant swim but I did see dogs who as scared of water. If you do throu him in make sure you are in the pool with him so if he does panic you will be able to keep him a float. They also make a life jacket for around 20 dollasrs you can get one at Wallmart put one of them on him and throw him in do that around 5 times then take it off and put him in.Good Luck
hon, all animals are natural born swimmers... its an instinct. just put him or her in water and float away from the dog and they will follow.. its simple no worries
They know naturally.
dear...throw the dog in the water! trust me he WILL swim! just like humans come into the world knowing how to suck and poop, dogs come into the world knowing how to swim.
you dont have to teach him. he just knows, it is a natural instinct for a dog (if its a dog that likes water) try throwing a ball or other toy in to the water to encourage him to go in and praise him when he does.
all dogs know how to swim. it's their instinct. some are just afraid to get wet. a little push is all he needs.
but try to do it in a pool. lakes can have all sorts of junk. and go in the pool with him just to give him confidance
