What can I use to get tangles out of my puppy's fur?

Question:I have a maltese mix, and I took himto the park, afterwards I noticed he hada few tangles nder his belly, he's so hyper I can't egt him to sit still to brush them out. I don't want to take him to the groomer like this. Any suggestions? detanglers, conditioners?

Answers:
Powder the knotted area with corn starch, and work it through with your fingers- the corn starch sort of 'lubricates' the hairs and helps them to untangle much easier. Do not bathe the pup while there are ANY tangles anywhere in the coat, as it will make the knots even tighter, and will result in them having to be cut out.

You might try working with your pup getting him used to brushing, by doing a little bit, then go do something else. Come back and brush again later on or the next day- keep sessions short, and always end on a happy note, either with lots of praise and cuddling or extra special treats, whichever your pup prefers. Regular, thorough brushing will keep the pup from matting in the future, and keeps the skin and coat in good shape.

brush him daily... try using a comb to get them out.. if it is a bad not you will have to cut it out.. do not let him have a bath with the tangles and knots this makes them tighter and harder to get out
I once got gum in my hair and peanut butter did the trick. I would think anything oily to lubricate the hair shaft would work.
I had a dog that was very hyper too.. and the only way to really do this is to get them calm(have a nice brush out in reach and the dog shouldn't know about it).. just pet them and pet them, and softly use the brush on their shoulders..that is not as sensitive as their heads, and then just brush their belly.. be soft, but hard enough to get the tangles out..
You can use a dangler or some conditioner, that should take care of the problem. But if it to tangled then you might have to shave it.
If you are doing a good job with training your puppy, you should be able to give him a treat to chew on while you comb out the tangles. Otherwise, you’ll have to get some help holding your baby while you comb out the tangles. You can take him to the groomers; they’ll comb out the tangles before they get him in the bath. For the summer, you can get him a puppy cut and have his fur trimmer shorter to prevent the tangles all together.
I had a chow and we used to use I think it was Johnson and Johnson detangler on him he used to get bad tangles and burs. I think they even make a no tear formula we used to use that. We had to do every time he had a bath and he didn't like baths he was a good dog. Someone shot him when we was gone he had a cat that he thought the world of he first came to our house as a stray and then a couple days later this cat showed up and just rubbed and loved on him. That cat even slept on his back. we had to go to the vet so much for ear mites where he got them from the cat the vet would just tell us to come and get the stuff lol. Sorry i rambled I miss him he was one of the best dog we ever had.
