Question:have just moved into a rented place, usually landlords steam clean carpets, but not this one. They had a dog and one room smells very strong that a dog has been in there. I have the windows opened, have used fragrance smells, to no avail...any other ideas. thanks
Answers:
This works. Steam clean your carpet adding Oxy-Clean to the hot water & detergent. I always use twice the recommended amount.
Don't over wet the carpet It is better to do the room twice. Allow to dry completely.

the smell is probly stuck int he rugg , cant get that out have to replace the whole darn thing
have the landlords replace the carpet, it's their responsibility. Go to the Landlord/tennant laws in your state, you'll find out the procedures there.
Clean the carpet yourself and hand the landlord the bill when he comes for your rent... or you can take that amount out of the rent. That would be the best way. Then wash down the walls with bleach and water.
try steam cleaning yourself. they have an arm n hammer carpet spray that works good. also you can go to your local pet store by a spray
there are carpet deodorizers you can get. sprinkle on, let sit and then vacuum.
could also try febreeze.
vinegar! use it in a rented carpet cleaner. if that doesn't work. complain to you landlord...he should have cleaned it BEFORE you moved in. and make sure to put that fact on your renters application....for later when you move out.
you don't want to pay for "fixing" that problem later on, because they WILL try and stick in on you!
All you have to do is either borrow or rent a steam cleaner it only costs about 10 or 15 dollars. Or u can buy one it's only $35.00.
You can rent a steam cleaner from a grocery store for a day and clean it yourself.
Buy lots of air fresheners
Go with the Nature's Miracle.
And never, ever use ammonia to clean up the rugs. Vinegar does nothing except cover the smell with something even stinkier.
I know what its like when we were about to move in the
carpets smelled awful and we found out the previous owners had
five dogs! i suggest a carpet cleaner and a strong cleaner! there
are allso sprays for pet odor. like fabreze.
First, I would clean the carpet if there is one.. with a powder that eliminates dog odors.. then I would clean the house with (a numbesr of products) that cleans the house of smell.
Most dog smells left in a house are urine, and cleaning the carpet, probably won't help because it's soaked through the carpet into the backing or the pad underneath. You should talk your landlord into replacing the arpet and pad, and while it's off the floor, wash it with a bleach solution. If the landlord is resistant, call your local health department and have them inspect the carpet and pad for anyting aon their list of hazardous things. You may NOT hold back rent or deduct costs of cleaning fromthe rent unles the landlord has agreed in advance to letting you do that. You lease is a contract and if it downs't state that you can do that, you'll be in violation, can be evicted, and lose all your deposits, and pay his attorneys costs.
