Can you give Benadryl to dogs for allergies?

Question:

Answers:
Yes my dog takes one to two pills every day in the summer and fall. Hartz also makes a hydrocortisone spray for itching it can be used on dogs, cats, and horses. It will not hurt them.
If it is a small dog no more than one pill for larger dogs over 70 pounds they can take two.

Other Answers:
You need to call your vet and talk to them. Otherwise you could be digging a grave tomorrow.

You need to talk to the vet and have him prescribe something. Human form medications are for humans only and have only been tested on humans, and how would you know how much to give to the dog? You could kill the poor animal. So please don try it.
the answer is YES.

2mg per pound (25#dog = 50mg)

Follow up with your pet's vet and try to determine the cause of the allergies and how you might reduce your pet's suffering.

cris.
yes, my dog takes benadryl, but i dont know how they dose it, you would need to talk to your vet about the dosage, and it has to be plain benadryl (diphenhydramine hcl) it cant have tylenol or any other drug added
Yes, what strength depends on the size of your dog, though. I wouldn't give more than one, and if its really small try to find childrens benedryl (don't know if they make that in pill form, though) . If it doesn't seem to help, or you are just not sure of what to do, go to your vet, he can tell you how much to give or give you something different.
Yes, but check with vet first for correct dosage, and to make sure you are treating the right thing
just wanted to let you know that th person who said that advil was safe for dogs was wrong, tylenol and advil can be deadly to dogs
yes you can the doses is 2 mg/kg every 12 hours. not 2 mg per #
