Answers:
german shepherd they protect you and the russel is just a stupied dog whichs yaps none stop you could sit on it with out realising it

I have owned a couple of German Shepherds in the past. You cannot go wrong with this breed. They are intelligent, very loyal, and easy to train, because they are very eager to learn things. One thing to remember though, you must discipline them firmly in the beginning , otherwise they will think they own you, not the other way around.
what do you want the dog for?? agility?, obedience? long runs in the woods? do you like shedding? etc.. we need more info, as these dogs are so different from one another. a healthy decent shepherd is going to cost AT LEAST 1500 dollars,, not so much for the JRT
It depends on weather or not you are active enough for them both...
German shepherds are very active and love to run and play.
Jack russels are very hyper dogs and love to run run run run run, jump and play.
german sheperd, because it is so useful too and can protect your house but make xure of it that u will be train it
Two very different dogs!! If your mum says you can then obviously you need a lower maintenance breed - jack russell. Depends on your lifestyle too - shepherds need heaps of exercise!! Russells do too but not nearly as much! If you are still at home or under the thumb of mum i would go jack russell.
whichever, make sure you love it and take care of it..they will be so loyal in return!!
GSD anytime, JRTs are yappy, bossy and stubborn to train - they have "small dog syndrome". I have friends with JRTs and I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole. GSDs are great dogs ... very trainable, loyal and beautiful natured.
...unless you have an IQ of over 140... take the Sheperd. The Jack Russell's are way to smart for most of us.
I have had several German Shepherds and they can be great dogs, they are the most versatile, they are police dogs, blind leader dogs, sheep herders, obed, Schutzhund, agility, duck retrieving and great all around pets. They SHED.They are usually active and need alot of exercise but so do JRTs. Both are a dominate breed that needs obed. training as a pup and both are in rescues in large quanties. I've known more laid back GSDs than JRTs tho..
It's really not important what I would like. What's important is which dog blends best with YOUR personality which is not the same as mine.

What you need to do is a google search for breed traits, german shepherd and breed traits, jack russell

Read up on the breed traits of both breeds and see which appeals the most to you.
german shepherd a great dog
I have a GSD and he's perfect, but you have to have a powerful personality and not prone to corporal punishment (hitting) or yelling. Just ALWAYS be consistant, if you are he will catch on to what you want. Make sure he is socialized with your friends and other animals. He does need grooming, brushing often, and bathing when necessary. Lots of exercise, and lots of love. A great pet. Check out the rescue first, an older dog (one or two years) has an established personality, you will know what he will look like as an adult, you can find out if there are health issues, and they are less expensive by far. They will love you as much as a pup would and they are easier to train. They are not in 'rescue' because they are mean, they could be there because one of the children in their first family developed alergies, or maybe the owner passed away. Before you buy, try rescuing a GSD.

The Jack Russell is a cute little dog, made very popular by the TV show, "Fraiser." Before you decide look up "Terrior" on your computer, they are a real handful. Not all of them, but that is their general trait. "Monster," who was "Eddie" on the TV show, didn't like anyone on the set except his trainer. As with almost all dogs they shed. Try Jack Russell rescue.

Also ask questions about different dogs, ask millions of questions. You will have this dog a long time, you want to get the right one for your family.
Please make sure to spay and neuter your animals.
There is a great online test to see if you're compatible with JRT's. I'd suggest that anyone considering this breed take this. They are very great dogs, but not for everyone.
