Now that it's summer time and it's hot he's probally trying to stay cool. I've seen our dogs try to get into their watering bowls to stay cool.
he's either trying to get attention or doesn't like water...some dogs don't like water. my dog doesn't. my dog used to drink milk but as she got older, she drank water. it's just a stage in their life.or just play with it.
I had one who did this all the time. I couldn't break her of the habit, so I bought a bowl that was heavy and balanced on the bottom so she couldn't tip it over. that worked. sometimes if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
1: Because its fun! and
2: Because you haven't placed his water into an un-tippable dish.
There is still no guarantee that he won't still play in the water to splash it everywhere ... but its better than what you've got, which is water on the floor and the potential for the pup to be without water until someone notices.
He may be hot and trying to cool off. Or he could be clumsy and is tripping over it.
You mean he flips his water bowl over? If that's the case, he could be wanting attention. We had an older dog who would constantly flip her bucket over and it was just so that we would come and refill it and play with her while we were doing it. He could be wanting you to pay attention to him and his way to get it is making a mess. Otherwise, make sure the water level in the bowl isn't so low that he can't reach it or you could try cleaning the bowl and see if that helps.
Because it's a puppy and they are like small children, kind of crazy.
It sounds like he wants to play. My new lab puppy does the same thing, she just loves to play in the water. She likes to stick her snout in thebowl and blow bubbles. :)
It's not unusual for some puppies to do this and what might help in this instance is to buy an adjustable water/food stand (which you can use both sides just for water) or you could use a weighted bowl.
Some just want to play in the water, or maybe they want there to be food in the bowl? Maybe they get bored..I don't know. I had a pup that like to "dig" in her water bowl and I got the water/food stand where two metal bowls fit into holders and I could put it up enough to stop the digging. Since it was a large breed, I could also adjust it so that the dog wasn't stooping every time she ate.
Puppies are wonderful things, they like to get into "trouble". Trouble in the sense that they test you to see what they can get away with, and what is acceptable. Spilling the water dish, chewing on everything(mostly attributed to the teething process.), peeing everywhere. Mine would spill the water dish if he didn't get enough attention. Being a Border Collie, its an inbred nutare for him to always need PLENTY of attention, and he's graduated from spilling the water to voicing his opinion about his lack of entertainment. I don't know what type of puppy you have, but it sounds like your normal puppy, just growing up and learning whats right and whats wrong, dictated on how you train him/her.
I have a part Lab part Beagle (looks like a fullblooded black lab though) who is young and she likes to put her paw in the water bowl and then shake it all over the floor but it may be because we recently got and filled up a kiddie pool in the backyard it is not big enough for her to dogpaddle in but she tries and I think when she can't go play in the pool she tries to recreate it in the kitchen lol
My dog did the same thing. He did it for attention. If you want him to stop you would have to give him more attention and only put the water bowl down when he wants water. Even if you are gone for the day. Give him a drink of water before you leave, and he will be fine for the rest of the day.
my dog, when he gets sick of his water, pushes it with his head around the room (its a plastic bowl) so water spills everywhere
Cause hes a curious puppy and he like playing with the water..mine quit after some stern no's. You may have to keep it up a bit and put it down for drinks. This puppy thing passes...does your dog have retriever in him?
Puppies like to play in their water dishes sometimes. Try getting a spill-proof dish (is there such a thing?) Your puppy is just playing no worries!
