Actually, if you would like a retired champion show dog, you can usually obtain one from a reputable breeder for close to nothing!
Good breeders are actively breeding and showing their dogs. When a male dog, that has become a Champion, and is not needed to carry on the bloodline, he is neutered. Champion females, that are either done breeding, or are not needed to continue the bloodline are spayed.
There are quite a few Champions that are looking for good homes...and breeders that are willing to GIVE them to good homes.
Expect a home check, and you will need to provide references and the name and number of your vet.
How wonderful it is to get a dog that is already housebroken and obedience trained!

pure bread with papers, can run anywhere from 800 to a thousand
It will cost a lot less if you go to the local animal shelter to see if they have one, or a similar breed. If you are in london or the SE you can try Battersea or the MayhewAnimalHome. They have loads of great dogs, and you can see some online before you go.
