I wonder if they see color, my dog had 2 toys that were exactly identicle, except one was red and the other yellow. She prefered the red one over the yellow one. Was it the color or was it the sound of the squeekie, or was it the taste, or was it the smell? I would have to hide it from her she wouldn't leave it alone.
Dogs have a heirachy, the alfa dog is #1 and then there is a pecking order.some dogs think they are the alfa if you let them...
i've trained my dogs about separation anxiety. I leave the room and close the door behind me and come back right away. I do it several times and stay away for different periods of time. This way the dog sees you coming back every time you leave and they get accustomed to this and end up not having any issues at all with separation.
My dogs know when I come home, they dance around expecting me. They can probably detect me by their highly sensitive smeller. or is it psychic? or both?

5. Dogs can understand going away (as in hunting) and coming back. Dogs can sense chemical changes inside you, and they will be concerned if you do not leave in a good state of mind, calm and collected about leaving. They can sense how you feel, not what you think or are actually doing.

3.they have it goes on there collar which is sposed to tell you what they are saying or thinking or whatever and they understand what you say (even if they act like they dont)

I can only speek from experience with my dog, so here goes! When I tell my dog " Annie, Mommy has to go to work, and you have to stay." Her ears fall, she jumps up on her chair, and puts her head down. It's really sad. She knows that I will be leaving her alone, but she also knows that I will return. Here are just a few thoughts that I know she thinks: How much begging will I need to do to get that piece of food, here comes the cat, she needs her butt sniffed, I want to play so I'll get the ball. Lot's of things go through her head. I can see her think sometimes.
As far as seeing color, I've always heard that animals see in black and white. I tend to not believe that, simply because it is unfathomable for me.
I believe there is a device out there that helps us communicate with our animals. It's called the human heart. Listen with your heart and you will understand.
My dog knows who everybody in our family are by name, and she recognizes me as her mommy. I know that might sound silly to some, but I take care of her as though she is my baby.
Whenever I need to leave her, I just talk to her and let her know that I will be returning. After you do this a few times your dog will know that you will return. I hope this helps you.

4. Since they are pack animals, they do have a sense of the pecking order in their family and can tell who is the alpha.
5. We may have to wait for the device mentioned in question three. But leaving them with friends is definately less stressful for the dog, if the dog knows them. If left with complete strangers or in a kennel the dog may feel he/she is being abandoned, probably more so if the dog has been abandoned already once before.
