For a pitbull, do you prefer natural or cropped ears, and why?

ALL dogs look soooo much cuter with their naturally floppy ears! They just make them look more adorable and puppy-like no matter how old they are!!

Plus.you do NOT have to crop their ears to show a dog. It used to be a rule they had to be, but enough people put their feet down to change that horrible rule. They can be a show dog whether their ears are cropped OR floppy.

I was a vet asst and I assisted with cropping a puppy's ear. It is INHUMANE! It truly is. There's NO reason for it and if you saw how it was done, you wouldn't want your pup to go through it. Long story short, they end up with stitches all the way around their ears. I worked at an office with 3 vets. Two of them flat out refuse cropping cause it's so cruel, but the other one'd still do them.

So, if you leave them floppy, you'll be saving yourself a lot of money, your dog will be spared alot of pain, he'll look like a puppy forever and you can still show him if you decide to!!! A win/win situation!

Natural ears on almost every dog.

The only practical benefit to cropping ears is to reduce the risk of ear infections. Some breeds require cropped ears in the show ring. If you are not showing your dog or concerned about ear infections, there is no reason to do it.
I have a doberman and I refuse to do his ears because of the fact that people are already scared of the breed as it is. Even with is ears floppy, people still go out of their way and move to the other side of the street when I walk my dog. I can't imagine what it would be like if I had his ears cropped.

My advice: don't do it.
im not sayin to fite him but if u wana fite em crop his ears if u dont fite em anyway goes an if ur fiten em its beter to hav croped ears becuas it got less of a chance to get its ears bit
Natural.

Cropping ears is extremely painful - ask someone who has had their ear cartilage pierced - now imagine cutting through it and piercing it a couple dozen times with suture.

I don't think it is fair (or humane) for a pet to have to endure that kind of pain for a cosmetic procedure for their owner's vanity.

I don't know why you would put a dog through the pain, and yes dogs do feel pain, through the pain of having her ears cut off when their is no good reason.

As far as ear infections go, I realize that dogs with down ears have more, but I have had dogs with floppy ears all my life and can cound the number of ear infections on one hand.
i wouldn't get them cropped on any dog! especially pitbulls!
it is cruel to them and they are alot less likely to hurt someon if noone has hurt them before.(but im sure your dog is nice)
plus dogs look cute with floppy ears!
well most of them any way lol
Natural ears for all dogs. Personally I just do not believe in altering anything on an animal or person without a very good reason.

Fashion ain't a good reason for me although I am aware that floppy ears are the result of just that, fashion, through selective breeding by human decision.

People liked the sweeter, puppylike look of floppy ears and set out to breed dogs that kept the floppy ears throughout adulthood, culmanating in such ridiculous ears like Cocker Spaniels' and Bassethounds'. They were bred exclusively for looks with not consideration of functionality.

Don't get me wrong, I love floppy eared dogs myself but that his not how dogs originally evolved. Nature favours open, upright ears for ventilation (less mite problems) and better hearing. Wolves and wild dogs all have upright ears.

But it is nothing that should be solved by cutting the ears off. Leave the ears (and tails) alone, they are part of the dogs.!!

If I would do anything, I would try to remove the silly length of some breeds' ears, again through selective breeding, not through the scalpel. And purely for health reasons, not for looks.

I think both look really cute. Although ours has its ears cropped. He did have his done at the vets office by the way.
