How long should it take for "poop" to be processed by my puppy?

Question:My puppy is six and a half months old, and recently adopted from a family who couldn't keep him. He's good at peeing outside, but he still has problems with the poop. He weighs 19.4 pounds and is a mixed breed. He's used to being fed only at night. What time should I feed him if I want him to poop first thing in the morning? My husband and I are up and about around five in the morning.

Answers:
Puppies poop a lot! They usually don't poop just once a day. Even full-grown adult dogs might poop two times a day. Usually, puppies younger than six months poop about 3-4 x's per day, and puppies between 6 months-1 year poop about twice a day. Many dogs/puppies defecate immediately (within 30 minutes) after eating--this is not the poop from the meal just eaten, but the previous meal(s). Others poop 30 minutes to 2 hours after. Usually they won't exceed two hours. You need to experiment with your puppy. I actually feed my puppy 2-3 x's per day, but she is under three months. I'd feed your dog immediately upon waking up and by the time you leave the house your dog should be ready to poop. It is sort of complicated, but it takes probably several hours to digest the meal, but the sensation of eating prompts the stomach to expel the previous meal. I guess it's comparable to eating at taco bell and then having the urge to defecate shortly thereafter.

He is still a puppy and should be fed twice a day until the age of one.
That is why most people feed in the evening, so that he will poop in the morning.

In my experience, puppies poop pretty soon after they're fed - maybe 3 or 4 hours. So you could either feed at 5 am and take him out around 8 am, or if you need him to poop at 5 am, I guess you could feed at 2 am!
How sad that you want to control the time when your dog poops. He poops when he poops.. We don't have a set time, so why should he? When you see that he's about to poop, thats when you train him where to do it.
My dog as a puppy had problems. They vet said he had to much hair. Try cutting the hair around his butt and eyes. My dog need eye drops because of the hair. I don't know if that helps. I once had 3 of puppy's that got parasites and the pooped red if that happens take them the vet ASAP or not they could die like 2 of mine did. One got to the vet in time.
Dogs will work around ur schedule. They like a routine. My dogs get fed and let out in the morning and after work they go out again. They will poop at night. Now he will usally poop once a day depending on his diet and how many times u feed him (He is a puppy so u should be feeding him TWICE a day til he is about a year old than u can feed him once a day). U could try feeding him around 6 or 7pm (depending when u get out of work) and he will probably poop in the morning. Sometimes it takes them awhile to get a routine down and he may poop at night when he is done eating so be patient he will work it out but be consistent!
when i got my dog i took him out 2 a day-----NO------he will poop every where ----

1. when you go to bed

2. when you wake up

3.when you get home from school 2 times

4.start the cycle over:-)
First of all no matter how old you dog is they should be feed NO LESS than TWICE A DAY! You may have to change his food to a better brand such as Natural choice. I feed my 2yr old Twice A DAY, and take her to poop maybe 3 times a day. A good dog food does help, but you might want to check out some training courses for you and your dog that include potty training.
at 6 month of age your pup can hold its self for at least 8hrs depending on the type of food your feeding it. remember it takes a few days to a couple of weeks for a dogs system to get use to the food your feeding it so find one type and stick with it. your dog knows that peeing is not allowed so it can tell what you want and that is for it to pee outside now for the #2 you have not instilled in him that you want him to poop outside maybe by not catching him in the act and putting him outside or praising him when he outside doing the do. at any rate remember dogs are not like kids you punish them for something they did 5 minutes ago, if you don't catch them doing it and punish them then they will not correlate a later punishment with what they did earlier.
