does anybody know where to buy a great pyrenees in indiana?

Question:

Answers:
Because this is a large breed, and prone to genetic problems related to its size, you want to make certain you go to a good, responsible breeder who does the proper genetic testing.

This link will give you information on requesting names of breeders in your area:

Members of the Great Pyr Club of America have signed a Code of Ethics (see http://clubs.akc.org/gpca/gcode.html ), and have a lasting interest in the health and well-being of the breed (not just making a buck). This is the best place to start looking for a puppy.

Good luck!

Other Answers:
Go to www.puppydogweb.com and look under great pyrenees and see if they have any breeders in Indiana, or surrounding states. Check out the parents and all. Check your local newspaper. Do NOT buy from a pet store, they are usually puppy mill puppys.

I really couldn't find a breeder in indiana, sorry. These dogs are a rare breed. Have a look out for classifieds in the paper or go to dog breeder directorys and try to find one in your area.

But, if you are willing to rescue a great pyrennese breed, you can go to:

Good luck and i hope you enjoy your future companion!
Find a good breeder referral by going to www.akc.org or talking to people at dog shows. This is a breed that can have hip problems - you should get the best one you can whose parents and grandparents have their hip x-rays certified by the OFA!

You can also find info about the breed clubs on the akc site - they probably have a rescue group where you can get an older dog for less money.

The best breeders will be members of their breed club, promoting healthy dogs with great temperaments. They should ask you a bunch of questions to make sure their puppy will be getting a good home. If all a "breeder" seems to care about is whether your check will clear, you can be sure he won't care a week later when the pup is dying from distemper or parvo and you want your money back.
