Question:he is about 13 inches tall, and most books say a 14-inch mini schnauzer should weigh about 14 lbs. We don't overfeed him but we are still concerned.
Answers:
No don't be concerned. He will most likely be a large Miniature. When you look in books and websites. They are going off of the breed standard. My Miniature turned out to be a small standard. He is 22lb at 11 months 17inch.
This is a question best suited for your vet who can see your dog and tell whether or not he's overweight. That sounds like it's on the heavy side, and since Mini Schnauzers are predisposed to several diseases that are tied to their weight, keeping them at a healthy weight is very important.
yes you should before he really gets fat
walk him more and feed him a better nutritional diet-Canidae is a great dog food and you feed it less because its getting all its nutrition it needs
If your dog is indeed 17 pounds at the age of 4 1/2 months then I'd say you got either a Standard Schnauzer or a Giant Schnauzer. A Miniature Schnauzer is 17 pounds fully grown at about 8 months old.
how big are the nipple?
Brooke, I would ask the vet, just to make sure he is healthy. But there are some schnauzers that are larger than the size that the book says and on the other hand there are some that are smaller than that also. It doesn't affect their personality though. They are the most lovable and sweet dogs that I have known whether big, small, or in between. We have 14 schnauzers, some small and some large and some in between. Each has a different personality but all are lovable and sweet and very smart. If you have not had a schnauzer before you will soon find out that they are a wonderful breed. I hope I have helped some. Take Care and have a wonderful day!
