A baby bird fell down my chimney and it still cant fly yet. What do i do to ensure it lives?

Question:I dont want to just set it on the ground because im afraid a cat will eat it or something. any suggestions?

Answers:
Call you local wildlife rescue organization. They will come, take the bird, care for it and release it when it is able to fly The link below is a resource to find an agency in your area.

just take it to the vet
if it cant fly.but can hop.bring it back outside..let it be.

if it cant fly or hop around...keep it in a box, and put some water in a bowl for it along with bird feed..if its a very small bird like a baby feed it cornmeal mixed with water so its a paste.feed it with your thumb and pointer as if it was a beak so the bird can eat it like if your finger's was its' mother's mouth.

see how it reacts...bring it outside every day to see if it'll move on....

be careful.
Usually the mom is near by and will still feed it. Put it somewhere she can find it. Can you get on your roof?

Also there are bird rescue groups who have the knowledge of what to feed it, how to feed it, and how often. Call a vet or the SPCA and they can usually give you a number to call.

A baby bird rarely survives if taken care of by the finder.
well i guess u could buy container and put one of ur old towels that u dont use anymore for the bottom and i guess just take it to a vet.
Try putting it on the ground or on a tree branch (if it can hold on) and watch it for a while from a distance. If the parents are around they will try to take care of it. If it seems to be abandoned see if there are any wildlife centers in your area that take baby birds. Lastly, you can try to raise it on your own. This takes a lot of time and effort since they need to be fed often during daylight hours. What to feed it depends on what type of bird it is. I have raised blue jays successfully feeding them canned dog food as the main food. As they got older I fed them seed and fruit and nuts etc. The only problem is they become used to people and it is hard to release them to live on their own successfully. Last summer I raised 2 baby blue jays (siblings). They were able to be released because they did not get completely attached to me because there were two of them. They stayed around my house and would let me hand feed them for the first week. After that they gradually came to me less and less and finally after about six weeks I didn't see them anymore. They were probably still around but I could not distinguish them from the wild blue jays by their behavior any more. Good luck.
Is the bird fully feathered or mostly bald? If mostly bald, you would need to replace it into the nest which is in your chimney most likely. If it is fully featherered you can put it as close to your chimney as possible for the parents to find it and continue feeding it. You can put it in a scrub or tree where it will be relatively safe from predators. If you cannot replace the bird into the nest if it is still tiny and bald, you would need to get it to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance or survival. Look for one near you here:
