Question:I have the opportunity to take in a african grey complete with cage as the owner is moving and cannot take - but I already have an umbrella cockatoo - can the two breeds be placed together? Or would it be best to keep them in separate cages?
Answers:
Keep them separate. They don't know each other, and bigger birds tend to be VERY territorial. They'll also bond to you more if they're separate. Put the cages next to each other so that the birds wont get lonely, and you should have two happy birds!
Good luck!
African Greys do not like to share their home with anyone. I would not put the two together in the same cage and I would never trust them together either unless I was with them.
Usually, if the birds have been raised apart, it is not safe to mix them in the cage. You must introduce them VERY slowly to each other, with one in each hand or one on a playstand and the other on your hand. NEVER leave them alone for one second! Never be far enough from them that you can't interrupt a fight! It will take patience, but you can help them become friends...not cagemates, though. Everybody needs there own "space"! Good luck!
Hi you can put the cages near eachother but you should'nt put them in the same cage or close enough that they could reach out and bite eachother.. They might end up being ok around eachother but it would still be best to house them seperately birds cages are thier "house" and an unwelcome guest could get hurt and to move them into a different cage would also cause a problem as thier cage is thier home and you can't just switch them..Good luck
NO keep them in seperate cages, birds get cage territorial and since you already have too, his home is his no one else's, its his space, as well as I am sure the grey is like that as well.
Birds are not breeds, they are called species there are various species of birds
