Question:One of mine came back through a window to be with 5 other parakeets after being outside for almost a day.
Answers:
You and the bird are both very lucky, this doesn't happen much at all.
Problem now is he will know he can do it and might try again without the success at getting back home safe.
You might consider clipping his flights/wings for his own safety. Birds we keep don't know how to find food and water and too often they are prey for larger birds.
It probably heard the familiar calls.
i'd say no and you where very lucky that you got yours back.
but any how, it would be real good for the keets if you could let them out in a small room for exercise. i let my amazon parrot out and he has a play top on top of his cage. and another free standing play top. when he gets out, he flys to the top of the other bird cages and looks out that window. when its time for him to go back in, i tap on a special perch i have mounted on the inside of his cage door. sometimes he goes to his place promptly. other times, he's acting bratty and i have to show him the towel, implying i will grab him and put him there. once he sees the towel, he goes home immediately.
i doubt it.
No it keeps flying and cant find its way home,, usually eaten by a predator, cat, dog, hawk,, or something else that takes birds,, it has no way to know how to survive being a pet, and is not a homing pigeon,, please dont take the bird outside,,,
Normally no, but I have heard of this happening. how fortunate that you let the window open for his return.
Maybe you should clip their wings and let let out of their cage more often.
