What can i feed a baby bird? Especially a robin?

Question:There is a small baby robin that fell out of its nest and we dont know where the nest is so we want to know what to feed it. Something besides worms becuase we can not find any right now! THANKS!!

Answers:
Take the bird to the nearest wildlife shelter. You won't be able to feed it properly. Robins are carnivores. They do eat worms and regurgitate them, partially digested, for the chicks. Yum!

bring it to the animal control officer and they can take care of it or a vets office that is the best thig you could do
get some baby bird food at the pet shop, mix it with water(directios are on the label) and feed the bird with a dropper, very slowly,Do not feed too much. Feed about every 4 hrs.
Don't remove the bird! Althoug since you already seemed to have done so, put it back exactly where you found it. Does it have feathers yet? If so, it might just be trying to fly, and it just didn't turn out this time, it's perfectly normal! It's parents should be back for it. If you have any concerns look in your phone book for your local wildlife centre (search in the wildlife services section ) or search on google (or any search engine) the name of your city, and "wildlife centre" for the one near you. Call them with any questions you might have. 90% of these cases, the bird will go saftely back to it's nest (if it can fly, if not it's parents will help it up) if undisturbed.
email a friend of mine. he'll get right back to you: rvogl@shaw.ca

experts say that you should leave birds where you find them. Tomorrow, you may want to put her back where you found her.
I raised a baby robin, you can feed it dog food, soak it in water, so it isn't to hard. Also, you could smash up worms, don't give it to them whole until its big enough.

Good luck and have fun!

One of the robins i raised (Octive) came back when i let it go. I would whistled a song to it a lot, also sung it. (Rockin Robin, lol) They might like that to know it is you. Talk to it so it will hear your voice every time you feed it, it will get use to you.

P.S.
Once A human scent is on the bird, the mama won't come back. If you do put it back make sure the mama finds it, look out a window or stay to where you can see it.
If the bird has most of its feathers, it is a fledgling. Baby birds fledge (leave the nest) several days before they can fly. They hop around on the gorund and climb low branches until their wings are strong enough for them to fly. Mom and dad continue to feed the fledglings until they are self-sufficient.

If the baby has most of its feathers, place it back where you found it. Mom and dad are looking for it.

The mother bird will NOT abandon the baby if you have touched it, so don't let anyone tell you she will. Birds do not have an acute sense of smell. Wildlife biologists and bird banders handle baby birds all the time with their bare hands. The mothers never reject the babies when they are placed back in the nest.

Do not keep the bird. It is illegal to keep any native wild species, even for a short time, even for good intentions, unless you have a license to keep it.

If the bird is injured, here is a site that lists licensed wildlife rehabilitators: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.
try chopping gutloaded mealworms(leave them overnight in a contained with nutrtional food) up into tiny pieces and try giving them to the baby bird. u really should have left the bird back in an area safe from predators like in a bush or something similar. the mother will still take the baby. birds cant smell so the myths about if u touch a baby bird the mother will abandon it are false. u should call a naturalist or email the nation wildlife foundation. they answered a couple of my questions im sure they can help with yours ill give u the link http://www.nwf.org/contact/ also u can try typing in foods for baby birds or googling it. youll find something
