First of all, what a cutie!! We have 4 birds now (3 are quakers). The only way you are going to be able to definatley be sure of your birds age is to get in contact with the breeder. Your going to have to call the pet store and see if they will give you this info. In my experience with quakers, you just have to be really patient with hand taming. He may not want to "step up", or even come out of his cage for awhile. (You gotta remember he was probably stuck in a cage 24-7 at the pet store!) He has to get used to you and his surroundings before being comfortable with being handled. Just be real slow, don't grab him or force him out of his cage. My first two quakers took 2 or 3 weeks before I could even handle them. We just adopted a new quaker (she is 6 years old, and came from a family that never had time for her, they never held her). I have been letting her sit on top of her cage. I walk over and talk to her several times a day. I sit next to her cage and if she makes a noise- I make it back to her, and we go back and forth (They think it's a game and love it). I take her some treats a couple times a day, and she has been readily taking them from me. Every once in a while I will walk over to her and put my finger down in front of her and ask her to "step-up". She isn't doing it yet, but she isn't biting or lunging or running away any more either. It may be weeks or months, but I know if I'm persistant, and win her love and trust she will let me pick her up. My best advice is to be patient. You will end up with a friend for life!! Quakers are smart, funny, inquisitive little birds. We love our babies, they make us laugh every day! The ones that hated to be out of their cages, now "beg" to be picked up and held and snuggled!! Good luck with your new baby
It's nearly impossible to tell the age of a bird.
Just be glad they live a long time and don't worry about it.
Parrots learn slowly. You need lots of patience.
Bribe her with food. She will soon learn that you have yummy treats and want to be friends.
(Your parrot is a very healthy, pretty baby!). There is usually a year and date stamped on their leg bands. Click on this link for a brief discussion about determining the age of young quaker parrots:
